Book Description

Xoe Meyers had a normal life. So she was stuck going to high school, and she only had a few friends to call her own. She liked her normal life. Things were about to change though, because there's a new guy in her small town, and he is anything but normal. Before Xoe can say, "Werewolf," her best friend's life is in peril, and Xoe's world is turned upside-down. Then, of course, there's Jason. Xoe doesn't trust him as far as she can throw him, and given that he's a vampire, she'd have to be able to catch him first.

(This book falls under the "Teen and Young Adult" category for Urban Fantasy, but is suitable for any who love Paranormal Romance and Adventure, no matter their age. Xoe is available for free to all.)

Exactly what it says on the tin!
More humour than twilight, same sort of thing.
True blood for the under-age.
Daughter's sort of read (15)'

2.0 out of 5 stars DNF @ 34% 2 Feb. 2015

Admittedly I only downloaded/read this because of an A-Z challenge in one of my groups on Goodreads. It's not something I would have picked up of my own doing (that sounds horrible, I know, but it's true.)

I never gelled with the story; the way it was written was too strange for my taste and it didn't seem to have an ease to it. It just didn't pull me in like most other YA books do.

The storyline (what bit I read) was just a little odd: a new guy arrives at school and two of your friends like him, like him and you instinctively know he's a little dodgy because he can't stop staring and within days he's been invited out with you and your fiends to the cinema where it all goes downhill. I stopped reading a little after this point.

I just couldn't connect with the story, the characters or the writing style.

Totally not for me, I'm afraid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jump in and just go with it 2 Dec. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This isn't the type of book I'd normally read. I'm not nearly as young as any of the characters, I'm nowhere near cute enough, I'm not even a girl, and, oh yeh, I'm not a vampire, werewolf or demon, at least I hope not, but Xoe is great fun and a very entertaining read for all ages. Written in first person, Xoe has a nice human element to her character. Often delivered with humorous comments (well let's face it, if being a teenager wasn't hard enough she also has to deal with some very testing paranormal tribulations; and there are very few moody moments which I was expecting)
I want to mention more, but I'm afraid I will spoil it if I do. It has the feel of a part one, but can be read as a stand alone book.
Go on indulge yourself. What's the worst that can happen?

5.0 out of 5 stars Xoe: or Vampires ... 10 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At first I was nearly put off thinking, oh dear, copy of Twilight. But I was wrong, up to a point. It does resonate with a memory of Twilight but also holds its own. I was completely emerged in a thoroughly realistic and believable tale, only wishing it was longer. I am delighted to find it has a sequel and have only paused to write this. I do hope Sara is busy writing the next one after that as I don't like having to wait! Can't write anymore as I'm off to get the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Twilight, but witty! 9 Dec. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A great read in the vampire/werewolf genre. It differs from the usual offering because of the main character's internal voice which adds a dry humour throughout the novel.
Xoe is distinctly different to her two high school friends - and quite content to be so. However, the arrival of two new boys in town starts to reveal just how different...

Perfect for teenage vampire fans and also worked well for this thirty-something 'wouldn't normally read this genre' woman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Teens and Adults 3 Dec. 2009
Book One of this series is a book along the lines of Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and the Sookie Stackhouse series--but MUCH more tasteful for the younger set. It has good drama, humor, and a touch of romance. I am an adult, and I enjoyed it alot, but the teens in my family LOVED it. I think it is going to become the new best thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed it! 22 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not sure what I was expecting from this, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Liked the characters, who were well constructed and believable. It's not a long book, but just the length of book you need to read at times. It's probably for the younger market, but I did enjoy reading it. If you like Vampire Diaries/Teen Wolf/Twilight,then you will definitely enjoy this. Give it a go.
