I've had this safe for two years and just bought another for my son. It can be used with the motion detection and it has an extremely loud piercing alarm when moved even slightly, or simply use it as a standard small lockbox. I bought it because we have babysitters or cleaners in the house when we aren't home. It is a secure place to put emergency cash or extra credit cards or stow my visa and social security card without any worry of someone snooping around in our stuff. I trust people that come into our home, but it is silly to leave temptations available. If it's in this box I don't have to worry about it.
It wouldn't stop a burglar from taking the whole thing, but it will make a racket if moved. It is also very very solid and although some time with a sledge hammer would eventually get it open, it would not be easy to force open.
