Sara Tavares has such a sweet soulful voice that I have no problem at all listening to her native Portuguese. I do not understand the lyrics, but I can really feel them through her vocals and infectious music. Her third album "Xinti" lives up to the very high standard set by "Balance", its predecessor, released 4 years earlier in 2005.
The album opens with one of the highlights, "Quando Das Um Puco Mais", a very catchy track filled with sunshine and happiness. It is followed by "Sumanai", another 4 minute dose of rythym and soul. The single "Ponto De Luz" is a simple acoustic guitar led ballad with a sweet melody. "Penastrada" is yet another smooth groove and "Di Almo" adds some funk to the mix. The second highlight of the album is "Bue", another catchy guitar led song with lovely sweet vocals. But the best of all is "So D'Imagina", a really infectious number with a fabulous melody and instrumentation - a true masterpiece. The tempo of the album does slow down quite considerably after that, which is a bit of a shame as the best songs are the faster paced ones, but the 5 ballads that follow "So D'Imagina" are of a very good quality, finishing with the guitar instrumental, "Manso Manso".
Not that many artists manage to consistently release quality records, but Sara Tavares certainly does and possesses the formula required to keep her fans interested and loyal. I am one of them and if you take time to listen to her music, I am sure you will become one too.
