You can (and you need to) use this beautiful work if:

you use Chinese with people or texts from mainland China,
and either

you've completed a year and a half in a Mandarin Chinese language program in mainland China (in other words, start using this during the Chinese New Year break of your second year),

or

you've done two years of Mandarin Chinese in a non-Chinese university and completed half a year of Mandarin study in mainland China (in other words, start using this during the Chinese New Year break).

The vocabulary inside the definitions is at this level or only slightly more difficult. The definitions are clear and helpful.

The vocabulary of the head entries covers almost any character you'd ever need. Each head entry shows both simplified and traditional forms where they're different (keyed to the definition numbers when necessary, too).

Under the head entries, there are rich lists of multiple-character words and expressions, with pinyin pronunciation and a full definition for each item!

The dimensions of the book are convenient for carrying in a backpack.

The typefaces are easy on the eyes.

Graduate from two-language dictionaries, which don't translate nuances very well, to this single-language dictionary by and for native speakers but accessible to intermediate adult learners.

It will also solidify your reading skills and character memory. It did so for me.
