Amazon.co.uk Review

Xena--you gotta love her: after all, she could snap your neck just by straightening her knees. She sprang fully armed from Sam Raimi's head in March 1995, to flesh out an otherwise routine episode of the television series Hercules, a high-kicking, horse-riding, chakram-throwing ancient-Greek-warrior princess, who mustered armies the way some women shop for shoes, turning heroes against one another as gleefully as she laid waste to sweet little villages.

Except that somewhere beneath that straight dark fringe and hard-boiled leather breastplate lurks doubts, feelings, even a soul. She was so popular on Hercules her spin-off was an instant certainty--and pretty soon the subtext of her own series was unfolding. Xena is on a journey from evil to good, but this can only be enabled by the companionship of bossy redhead scribe/bard, Gabrielle, her constant friend. Set in a lush New Zealand doubling for the pagan Mediterranean, as misruled by Ares, Aphrodite, Poseidon and the rest of the Mount Olympus gang, Xena: Warrior Princess recounts these exploits, as the duo confronts gods, monsters, warlords, idiots and anachronisms, as well as their own flaws and desires at the hilarious and sometimes unsettling mythological crossroads where touchy-feely Californian feminism meets high-camp chop-socky pantheism seasoned with the Way of Peplum Tao.

In the first series (first aired US 1995-96), Xena and Gabrielle encounter Centaurs, Amazons, Titans, Gods, Helen of Troy, Hercules, King of Thieves (and Zappa-lookalike) Autolycus and--most important and exciting--Xena's ex-victim-turned-nemesis Callisto, an evil skinny-blonde avenging angel. --Honey Glass

The second part of Season 4 has it all - A trip to India where Xena and Gabrielle find their "way" in life and discover what fans of the series had already guessed that they are destined to be soul mates who will be together forever - a rematch with Alti, Caesar and Pompey and a steady build up to the most gripping episode of Xena so far in "Ides of March" - Can Xena and Gabrielle escape the fate Alti predicted for them, crucifixion at the hands of the Romans - not if a recently deceased old enemy (in a surprise reappearance) has anything to do with it!! - These eleven episodes are an emotional rollercoaster ride from beginning to end which see Xena and Gabrielle's relationship transcend friendship and even death itself!

The first half of season 4 of Xena contains some of the best episodes of the entire shows run. The opening two-parter 'Adventures in the Sin Trade' is a beautifully shot episode with Xena trying to overcome her friends 'death'. 'A Family Affair' features a touching moment when xena is reunited with Gabrielle. Other highlights are 'Locked up and Tied Down', where Xena has to pay for past crimes, and 'Daughter of Pomira' which features the return of The Horde from season one. The 'comedy' episodes are a joy too with 'key to the Kingdom' featuring Meg and Joxer, and 'A tale of 2 Muses' where Autolycus brings dancing to a town where it is banned. All in all a satisfying purchase.

after the davastating finale of season three fans(including me)were left awestrucked and wondered how the show was going to carry on with the(presumed)demise of one of the shows greatest characters.
the result was season 4...and what an amazing season.

Lucy and Hudson(callisto) act off of each other really well and that is what makes this episode one of the shows greatest episodes.
Deja Vu all over again*-5/5-hilarious!!!!!!!!!
