Product Description

Tie-in to the international TV cult sensation starring Lucy Lawless.

Xena, once in love with conquest and destruction, now fights for the side of good. Though constantly haunted by her wicked past, Xena courageously battles mortals, gods, demigods and monsters, and heroically protects the downtrodden from evil.

In Prophecy of Darkness: travelling the countryside, Xena and Gabrielle encounter a twelve-year-old seer with a startling prophecy. She warns them about a mage whose well-intentioned spell will lead to disaster. The spell will unleash Cerberus, the fearsome guardian of Hades’ gates. The mage seeks relief for those who suffer in the underworld. But his spell will set free many evil-doers – as well as Cerberus himself – to terrorize the earth.

Xena and Gabrielle must help the seer to break the spell – before all Hades breaks loose. But more danger awaits, because, according to the prophecy, one of them will not return…

I really enjoyed this book.It wasn't as long as the other xena books(empty throne, theif of hermes and huntress and the sphinx)and held my attention all the way through.
The ending was clever(though slightly predictable)
It had funny bits and dramatic bits but i think it was more of a teenage book.

Xena:Warrior Princess 28 Nov 1997
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This Xena novel was very interesting, but there were little things I noticed that were incorrect. For instence, Xena's horse is named Argo, but they put a S at the end, making it Argos. Xena's personality didn't fit together either. Xena rarely shows a lot of emotion , but in the book, she cracked jokes, smiled, and even sang. I might be picky, but other than what I said, I was a fasinating novel.

Pretty good 12 Jan 2003
By Jamie Teal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I read this book several years ago while the plot of the television series was still young, season 2 or 3. The book is consistant with that timeline, which has been screwed up, spun around, and dumped upside-down since then. Around the same time I also read the Ru Emmerson books, and I do like this book much better than those as they are not consistant to the Xena timeline/plot and cannot stand alone-you would have to read the first and then the second and so on to understand everything that's going on. This is a stand-on-its-own kind of book and has a Xena-like plot to it. One problem that seems consistant to me in the published Xena novels is lack of emotion. This book held more emotion than the Ru Emmerson books.
If you want a good, stand on its own Xena adventure, this is the book for you. If you want a Xena adventure the provokes serious emotions and feelings, as the show itself often did, you may want to consider online fan fiction.

THE BEST XENA NOVEL 19 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is by far the best xena novel. But in some of these summaries below they say xena doesn't crack jokes in the tv series. Well they must be a one time viewer!!! In this book she DOES crack jokes so HA HA (and if you watch the series you'll note that xena does cracks jokes.) This book is the greatest xena novel you can find (so far). I liked Ru Emerson's xena novels but she just wrote on and on and it took her almost the entire novel to get some action. This story is the closest book I have read to the seires it had jokes, it had action, and I felt like I was reading something written by one of the directors of the show! This book was great and worth every penny!!

Doesn't capture Xena Gabrielle characters 11 Mar 2000
By Susan H. Pike - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book did a poor job of conveying the essences of Xena's and Gabrielles characters-especially compared with the Ru Emerson books. In this book Gabrielle does too much simpering and is too much a little girl-no thought is given to what makes Gabrielle and Xena a team. And the sexual tension between them is totally absent-this book seems more geared towards the young male audience than both the tv show and the Ru Emerson books-which I highly recommend-especially if you didn't like this one.
