Xbox 360 Elite Specifications
Xbox 360 Elite is a sleek, customisable gaming and entertainment system, which measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.
The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage this console package includes a 120GB hard drive. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.
Control your Gameplay
Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has also created a video-conferencing camera, sold separately, that will work with the system.
The Media Experience
All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library.
Go Live
A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital items for your games. The subscription service Xbox Live Gold adds to that online competition, game stats, and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards. HDMi cable sold separately.

My son wanted the xbox over all the other consoles- apparently all his friends have them instead of the ps3- much better for gaming experience he said
I was a little worried about buying this package for my son as I had read many reviews and had concerns as to why this was the cheapest package online. Many reviews I read stated that maybe it was because the console was not the latest on the market- apparently there had been a problem with the original console which ended up with the circle of death symbol making the system obsolete- and if this happened out of warranty you would have to buy a new console. Well I took my chances and was pleasantly surprised to receive the latest version. - the package came with a choice of three games but at the time of purchase there was only a choice of two. My son was so desperate to have the console- it was his christmas present and he had asked everyone for money so that he could buy it- so I took a gamble, I contacted customer services and asked if I bought the package now would they honour the deal and send me another game when they came back into stock. Yes was the reply, not a problem. A coupe of days later I received an email stating that if I followed the link I could now choose the additional game. This time there were many games to choose from including many of the latest released. Then my son had an idea- one of the original games purchased was Fifa 10, he didn't really want this as he is into rugby, so he asked my the write yet another email to amazon to ask whether or not I could change this game as it was the only one available at time of purchase- Yet again Amazon agreed. So now we have a fantastic package with all the games that my son wanted Amazon have been really helpful throughout- fantastic customer service

Ok to qualify that statement, i work at game and you simply wouldn't believe the amount of customers we USED to get complaining their 360's. As of late the volume has sharply decreased, we used to get about 4 a day in the one small store, but now its closer to 1 if any in a day. This is due to the new motherboards which have been put inside them. They used to have a fail rate of around 33% this is now down to 4%, which is still quite bad but was enough to coax me into buying one for the following reasons.
The library of games available to the xbox is fantastic and i will admit its better than the ps3's, it has many great exclusive titles that sony can't get their hands on eg. mass effect ,fable ,halo and gears to name a few of the biggest. But it also gets DLC often ahead of sony, e.g fallout(360) had dlc on the marketplace long before sony got it on the playsyation network. The online service is far superior and although you do need to pay a fee to use it, it is really worth it as the experience is far superior to the playstations online and in my uses seems less broken than the playstations network (PSN) i was able to find player to compete against on live. The use of the online services is the primary reason i would recommend an elite, as the xbox live requires memory capacity to save account details and profiles, the arcade has no memory space so the hdd with the elite is an essential for online gaming. Graphically its great admittedly its not as goos as the ps3 but is cheaper and the difference is small, the online and game library more than make up for it. It is backwards compatible with a lot of the original xbox games too. The controller is a good fit in the hand and with the larger, chunkier size, feels better and more naturla to hold. Also thanks to the new internal changes they are much quieter than the old ones were which in my opinion was much too loud. So overall if looking for a great GAMES console then the xbox is the one for you, everything is great about the new ones.

Amazing product, its disappointing that the Elites no longer come with an HDMI lead out of the box. While HDMI are not expensive, my old Xbox *which unfortunately broke* at least came with composite HDMI built on to the same lead where the composite (R/W/Y leads) are. As I still own all the bits off of my old one this is not a problem for me, but one thing I will say is if you didn't already get an Xbox 360 that came with the HDMI and the Audio Adapter to allow you to use an optical output or stereo output beware when preparing to use HDMI because without the adapter, there is no way to link the sound and HDMI to different outputs. I am sure they will be selling them, the title is "Xbox 360 Audio Adapter" and its an official product.
