Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer-gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you add DVD-playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.
The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 mHz Intel main processor and 233 mHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multi-player online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game-controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, voice-activated headsets and who knows what else?
But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games--and games are what it's all about. --Mike Fehlauer, Amazon.com

At this price, you can't go wrong,
This review is from: Xbox Console with Halo & Midtown Madness 3 (Video Game)
This is an absolutely fabulous package at this price, but there was obviously some cost-cutting going on: Microsoft, couldn't you spare a couple of game boxes for the included games? Instead of game boxes for Halo and Midtown Madness 3, you actually get two tacky paper pockets that are useless once opened. Of course, this is the only downside to what is a truly tremendous package. The Xbox is the most powerful console available, with the most extensive list of classic forthcoming games compared to the Gamecube and PS2. Of course, when you purchase the DVD Movie Playback Kit, it also makes Xbox a reasonably good DVD player, which is in fact much better than the PS2's DVD playing capabilities. At this price, you can't go wrong.

Not bad at all!,

I've always said I won't buy an Xbox until some games come out that justify the purchase. Well, I bought this bundle just after Christmas, along with three other games. Since then, I've bought two more games. Suddenly, the Xbox is recieving a steady stream of quality games. This bundle has Halo, which, as it's now out on PC, is reaching for Half-Life's "nearly everyone on the planet has played it" status. It's still a good game and hasn't aged. The other bundled game, Midtown Madness 3, is fun because it doesn't take itself too seriously. The reason I've taken off a star is because of some cost-cutting Microsoft did with this bundle. The bundled games come in paper sleeves rather than proper cases. I've emailed them about this, and they said it was indeed to cut costs and "deliver great value", whatever that's supposed to mean. This shouldn't prevent you from picking up this bundle, but keep in mind that you'll need to get cases from somewhere, as the paper sleeves aren't as durable.

Temperamental to say the least!,

I've got two XBoxes and it is the cutting edge of consoles. Midtown Madness isn't the deepest racer, and HALO is arguably the best fps of all time. The controller you get nowadays is much better than the first one I got. But the XBox has a way with being temperamental. I don't know what everyone else does, but my XBox is fairly close to the TV. They're breathing some, I said some of the same air and my XBox will just up and decide to not play a game for me. I'll have to reboot, remove the game and make sure there are STILL no scratches and pur it back in. Maybe I'm just imagining things, but since I'm not rich and I normally get pretty obsessive about one game for a while, my XBox will tell me when it's had enough of that game. So I put a different game in and it fires right up no problem. Weird, huh? So that's why I say XBoxes are temperamental. Also, BOTH of my XBoxes do and have done that. Quirky!
