4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning and classic piece of Microsoft design 3 Feb 2007
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Headset represents Microsoft at its best: it's an excellent peripheral, beautifully designed and (mine!) works perfectly. The two most important areas for me are: volume (speaker & microphone) and comfort.

Volume: this is perfect; I can easily hear everyone speaking and everyone can clearly hear me. For volume adjustment a large, slightly recessed circle on the back is divided into two, with a small `blistered' on/off/mute switch in the centre. These buttons are easily accessible when wearing the headset, but an over-under division (`over' corresponding to `volume up' [+]) would have been better.

Comfort: this is good. For me, over-the-head fittings are most comfortable but this is by far the best around-the-ear model I've used. It comes with two sizes of rubberised ear fittings, one to hold the ear piece tightly to the ear and the other to hold it more loosely. I use the looser version. It's light and comfortable, not quite `I forget I'm wearing it', but close. (Putting it on takes some practice initially, but you soon get the knack!)

Other Stuff: When the headset synchronises itself with the Xbox wirelessly for the first time (only!) it's important to do this before you connect any controllers. This allows the headset to use the same channel as Controller One (for instance). Mine did this flawlessly, in a few seconds and on the first attempt. Perfik!

Criticisms: Many have had problems with this headset, including synchronisation failures, apparent disturbances in broadband connectivity or sound quality issues. I shall not comment on these (see other reviews).

3.0 out of 5 stars An Honest Oppinion? 10 Sep 2009

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
"Should I buy this?" - I know my answer will be pointless but it's simply: It depends.

This headset does not have better quality sound. The sound you hear is of very poor quality from the start and no headset will clear this up. People who claim the sound quality is better is simply hearing it because they want to hear it.

My biggest problem with the headset is it's very uncomfortable, at least on my ear. After wearing it for about 3 hours I couldn't really feel it any more as long as I didn't move my head - however, once I finished my gaming session and took it off I realised why. I had basically lost the feeling in my ear due to the way it put pressure on my ear. It might fit better on some people but the problem is you just won't know until you try it on yourself.

As for battery life. As long as you let the headset charge its full 6-7 hours BEFORE you use it the first time and then let it fully deplete and fully recharge a couple of times, you should be able to maintain a healthy battery and get many hours out of it. As for the reviewer complaining he had to recharge it every 2-3 days... what do you expect? There's no portable nuclear power plant built in to it but a tiny battery... hard to believe, I know.

To sum it up, don't expect miracles out of this headset. It won't revolutionize your Xbox Live communication and it might not fit your ear very well... and you will have to recharge it every other day. So if the cable on the original headset is a nuisance and too intrusive for you then this product might be what you are after. My advice is to try it on first if you have a chance, it's certainly not for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wireless XBOX 360 Wonder... 21 Jan 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I was a bit skeptical after reading a few reviews of people that had bad experiences. All I can say is that there appears to be a problem with a few of these units, but the experience I've had with my headset has been completely trouble-free. I'm not ignoring the fact that a lot of people have had to send theirs in for repair etc, this is just my experience with the product..

The headset itself is pretty light, but well built and clearly made from quality materials. The first time I used it was the day after I bought it due to having to charger it before first time use. The unit charges via a USB cable that you can connect to the actual Xbox 360, which isn't as bad as it sounds. The Xbox doesn't have to be on for the headset to charge, it just has to be plugged in at the mains - which is brilliant for overnight charging.

The night after the initial charge was fantastic; the instructions on how to connect to the 360 were flawless. Turned my Xbox on, turned my controller on, turned my headset on and they all synced up perfectly. I've yet to try this with my pad being set as the 2nd Player but I assume it will be exactly the same. The Xbox Dashboard displays the headset's current battery status on the top left hand side, just like the battery status of the pad, which is very useful for keeping track of available wireless-time during long gaming sessions. The range of the wireless was very good, I found I was able to talk to my friend whilst I went upstairs and the quality was just as good as if I was stood next to the router, despite the 7 or 8 surfaces the signal had to travel through.

I had to change the ear clip that was attached as default (medium) to the spare clip that was provided (small) after first use as I found the unit hung off slightly.

It worked fine when I first used it, but only after a couple of weeks, did the problems start. Now I would be lucky if I could talk for five seconds without it cutting off.
