10 years after the last studio album, but Chicago are back. XXX features the new single, Feel, in two formats (one in the single mix and the other with the horns in full flow - I know which one I prefer).
The opening tracjks are a little on the slow side, reminiscent of some of the AOR tracks from Chicago 21 but you can't fault the superb musicianship. Things pick up in the second half of the CD starting with 90 degrees before peaking with Champlin's "Where were you", a track that extends the band and shows some of the work that they developed in the "Stone of Sisyphus" project.
As an avowed Champlin fan, I would have liked more from Bill but what there is confirms him as a major force in the music business.
In summary, an album probably more for the Chicago afficionado but it does show a band who have taken musicianship to the highest point. If only they would tour over here ... please!

Such a long wait but a very good modern return with signature ballads like KING OF THE MIGHT HAVE BEEN,LOVE WILL COME BACK AND LONG LOST FRIEND main vocals Jason Scheff. WHY CAN'T WE sees Bill Champlin take the main duties. Great to see Robert Lamm back in the light unlike past albums when he's been moved aside with super tracks such as the single FEEL, 90 DEGREES AND FREEZING, BETTER and the excellent COME TO ME,DO. BILL CHAMPLIN also shows that once again he's a main force with rock/pop numbers ALREADY GONE, LOVE CHAINS and sharing duties with JASON SCHEFF on WHERE WERE YOU and the stand out track for me CARLOINE this shows the group are back with a bang.

If you are a chicago fan of the 80s you should easy slip into this album with every listen. If you are a fan of the early chicago you will probably find it a little more harder to get into the sound.

This album features producer JAY DEMARCUS (Country group Rascal Flatts) working on hand to give to band a modern feel. I read a review were someone stated he was no DAVID FOSTER but belive me he has done a good.

Overall i must say this is a great return to form keeping up with the times certianly wanting to grow with every album and not wanting to sound dated as a group.

Please mark this as a return...........MORE ALBUMS PLEASE

Firstly may I say this release is long overdue. 15 years is too long to be out of the market and expect to come back with a hit album. In saying that the album is excellent and I think has a little bit of everything for all Chicago fans. The 80's ballads are covered her with King of might have been, Love will come back and Long lost friend with Jason Scheff at the lead. Earlier fans of the band will prefer Better, Come to me do, Lovin' chains and Already gone. Chicago have also come up to date ( well as up to date as a band going for nearly 40 years can!) with the title track Feel, caroline and the 2 best tracks on the album, 90 degrees and freezing and Where were you?. Overall I feel the album is as good as it gets from Chicago. Not quite reaching the commercial success of the 80's with Peter Cetera or as socially aware as their early releases however the talent is still there with excellent harmonies, solid lead vocals and of course the HORNS!

This may be the last piece of original music we ever hear from a band that reaches it's 40th birthday in 2007. So for that reason alone, " just try it, you just might like it".

The only thing left is for Chicago to tour the UK!
