Product Description

Developed by professional dancer, choreographer and Pilates instructor Andrea Rogers, Xtend Barre combines the grace and flexibility of dance with the strength and sculpting of Pilates to give you a long, strong and lean physique. The programme is divided into three segments, allowing you to customize your workout each day. The upper-body section creates defined shoulders and arms and a beautiful back. The barre segment employs flowing dance movements to lift and tighten trouble spots like the glutes, hips and thighs. And the core programme targets the deep abdominal muscles to help chisel your midsection. Incorporating both toning and cardio elements, this unique barre workout lengthens and strengthens your entire body in an exciting new way. You ll burn calories, build lean muscle and feel terrific! Includes tutorial segment.

I tried a 30 minute session of this workout on the BodyinBalance channel on Sky. After 30 minutes of very small movements using on 6ft x 6ft of space my body was pulsing and I was thoroughly tired out. Not a bad option for those days you don't want to leave your living room, and "by the way" the space in your living room is only 6ft x 6ft. This full DVD version had different sections which you could chose from the menu references by zones of the body or length of time for the workout. The "barre" section refers to using a handrail as you would find in a studio, however they pragmatically suggest using the back of a dining chair. Key to the workout is small movements for weightbearing (own body weight) exercises and long stretched to engage your core and free you up. After 2 weeks, during just 30 mins on three occasions each week, I am sure I'm already seeing a difference in my legs, plus I feel I have lost some water around my stomach.

The premise is that this workout will make you long and lean. It is too early to discover that, but I would suggest getting this if you are a runner. It complements a running route nicely by overcoming the stiffness and working your core, plus it is a good alternative for rainy days.

quite fast so not suitable for somebody not used to exercise, but otherwise it's very good. One negative, for me, is that you can only pick one section to do at a time and then go back to the menu for the next. Much better to be able to select one/two/three items or whatever so that you can just get on with it and not keep going back.

This will work... 7 May 2011
This is a great cardio and toning workout which is challenging from the start both in tempo and routine. It will work your entire body and core. The total workout is 55mins long and includes different sections for arms, abs, legs/butt and floor/barre, all of them ballet and pilates inspired. One has the option of selecting each chapter individually and all you need is a chair and small weights.
If you want to get toned but also really challenge yourself with cardio then this workout definitely delivers both. Not for the faint-hearted!
