This is a very good product as the other reviews state, but it wasn't as good as I had hoped. I have used an X-mini II for several months and think it is brilliant for the money. I was expecting a significant improvement with the Max speaker but it wasn't really there. It has all of the usual X-mini attributes: well made, pretty good sound for the money and thoroughly well presented, but seems fiddly to set up in comparison with the X-mini II. For instance, you will always need to take the Max 2 cables with you, but the Mini II has a short cable built in which tucks into a recess on the base of the speaker. One X-mini II will give you 90% of what you get with the Max 2 at less than half the price.

These are superb mini speakers. They produce an excellent sound, and not only for their tiny size. They are well constructed, the battery lasts long, and they come with a nice carry pouch, and have a tidy single cable which doubles up both for charging the units as well as connecting to portable media players.
A major piece of advice I would pass on to fellow Amazonians:
Because the speakers are actually quite good, they ruthlessly expose poor quality music files. I found that with many of my low bit rate music files (say 55kbps to 100kbps), the speakers "distort" at anything above 70% of my mp3 player's volume. (In fact this is not really the case; the speakers are simply exposing the weaknesses in the music files).
On the other hand, with all of my downloaded music from iTunes (nicely encoded higher bit rate files) and ripped music from CDs (excellent quality 320kbps mp3 files) I encounter zero distortion. With quality files, the speakers happily pump out very loud, well articulated music all the way up to the maximum volume of my mp3 player(s).
In short then, if you think these speakers are "distorting", do check your music files.
Very satisfied with my purchase, overall. I can't say that these compare to larger sound docks because that would just be fanciful, but the fact remains that these are superb mini speakers (emphasis on mini), are more portable than all the sound docks I've encountered, and sound pretty good to boot. Good stuff.
A last word: make sure you "run" them in. Like all speakers, they improve with use.

I have read some of the reviews here. These speakers are £30.00. They are made to be used on portable devices like mobile phones, tablets etc. I have been buying Hi Fi for well over 40 years so know a little about speakers. For the cost the quality and finish of construction also sound is amazing, they cannot be expected to replace home speakers that cost ten grand! All this talk of midrange, bass and treble! They are 30 pounds not three thousand.
In relation to my home Hi Fi with floor standing speakers, amplifier and dedicated CD player these little speakers are crap. Thank goodness for that as I paid ten grand for my home Hi Fi. 30 pounds wouldnt even cover the cost of ONE speaker phono lead connection! I think a reality check is needed here.
These are as portable as can be expected, made as well as can be expected, even better and sound better than they should for the price. Ten years ago to achieve these standards we would have had to pay ten times this price.
I congratulate XMI for producing such an incredible package at this silly price. If we, the consumer, can find better, let me know.

This is my first ever review of a product so here we go... Ordered the XMI X-Mini Max 2 on Tuesday night after reading rave reviews about XMI products arrived Saturday Morning.. checked out the X-mini 2 but wanted the stability of a flat surface base and with a bit more 'va va voom' mainly going to be using these speakers outdoors with an iPod and Macbook Pro.
Packaging is nice and compact simple instructions.. bit of charge in the speakers and ready to go out of the box.
Set up the cables 'which YES is a bit all over the place' but nice that its all in one bundle then 3 different cables... just gonna clear up a few things before i get into it...
1. Charging while listening to music... Im actually writing this review while they are plugged into my Macbook Pro Audio Out AND charging through the USB and there is NO buzzing, feedback or loss of sound... even when i mute the audio the speakers are silent. maybe i just got lucky but being able to have this function confirmed a 5 star product in my eyes.
2. The cable.. I have seen a few reviews about people complaining about the size of the cable and that if they were to lose it it would render the XMI X-Mini Max's useless... NOT THE CASE! I am a DJ and know a thing or two about PA cables there are 3 cables you can buy to 1. Alternatively streamline the cable supplied and 2. A replacement backup incase of loss or damage.
You will need...
2 x 5 Pin MIni USB to Female 3.5mm Jack (two of these, one for each speaker to plug into the Mini USB ports with then 2 female 3.5mm jacks for Audio In)
1 x 2 Male 3.5mm Jack Splitter to Female 3.5mm Jack (this cable takes the audio source from a and splits it into 2 Male 3.5mm jacks which plug into the 3.5mm female jacks)
