The new X-mini Max is a pair of stereo speakers – each retaining XM-I's patented Bass Xpansion System (BXS) which mimics the resonance of a sub woofer. With the new stereo speakers, the volume level of the X-mini Max can be raised to a substantial level without any distortion.
Powered by separate in-built rechargeable batteries with separate PCB boards, each speaker can be detached and be played as a Mono speaker on its own. Users will have the flexibility to use the X-mini Max as a pair of stereo speakers at home or office, or take out one of the speakers to be used as a Mo o speaker on the move. The improved battery life allows up to 10 hours continuous play time, designed to meet the requirements of even the most demanding music enthusiasts for both heavy indoor and outdoor usage.
Much like the X-mini Capsule Speaker, the X-mini Max is also designed for increased portability. The two X-minis are connected at the bottom by a magnetic base so as to easily keep them for hassle-free storage and portability. The X-mini Max is one of the world's smallest stereo speakers with dual audio output capabilities. Capable of producing explosive volume and Bass over ten times its physical size, the X-mini Max lives up to XM-I's objective of creating multimedia devices that precedes major trends in Digital Lifestyle Technology.
Looks can be deceiving. Especially when you see X-mini Max for the first time. Although it is small and compact, it delivers a sound that will astonish you with its power, precision and depth. X-mini Max out-performs any similarly proportioned loudspeakeravailable today, producing impressive sound. Combine them with the similarly styled patented Bass Xpansion System (BXS) to handle the lowest spectrum, and you are ready to take on any challenge from action movies to dance music and anything in between.

Cute & dinky, but thin sound,
By Bill "vtrman" (Nottingham, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: X-Mini Max Stereo Capsule Speaker (Electronics)
I bought a pair of these on a whim at Reykjavik airport to use up some remaining Icelandic Kroner, because the salesman said they were fantastic.
I'll give them 4 stars only because they are very small, light, well designed and give an excellent battery life. They lasted for a full two weeks on holiday recently, playing tunes in hotel rooms whilst getting ready to go out for the evening. I'm a hi-fi fan, with a good quality home system, and several other bigger (and better - eg Logitech MM50) ipod docks & speakers. You cannot expect too much from these tiny enclosures. The sound is frankly, thin. Claims of explosive bass are just pure fantasy. These cannot push out high volumes and deep bass. It's just not possible for tiny pods and just 1.7 watts. They are particulary poor when used outdoors - as the already weak sound just disappears into the air. I used them recently at a BBQ, and my wife said, "turn those things off - they sound awful & tinny". Having said all that, despite a sound quality that fails to match the hype, I like them quite a lot. Being light and tiny, they are great for backpacking, motorcycle touring, flying with hand luggage only etc. etc. To get the best from them, choose light vocal music (ballads, folk, even classical?), and use in a quiet room, placed close to a back wall or corner, to artificially enhance the weak bass. In these conditions the sound is acceptable, and will fill the room. Used like this, detail in the upper-mid and treble range is excellent, and there is good stereo separation. The bass is still weak, but if you know the track well, you can kind of "imagine" its presence :) Attempt to play some rock / dance music, at proper volumes, you will be disappointed. Half the sound, from mid-range downwards, just isn't there. I also bought the later X-mini, second generation, with the red driver, hoping for some bass improvement. Don't bother. There is little difference. The sound is a little lower, with a tiny touch more bass - but the music sounds muted and fuzzy - the excellent treble has disappeared leaving a muddy sound. I wired up the (slightly) bigger unit, with the stereo speakers, hoping it would work as a "sub-woofer" (ha!) It didn't really work. Bass improvement is marginal, and the sensitivity of the bigger unit is less - so it's far quieter for a given input than the original x-minis. It's hard to balance them out - the small x-minis are louder and clearer than the later red unit. Buy this stereo pair, not the later mono unit - but just don't expect toooo much from them!

Brilliant design concept compromised by poor build quality,
By Stickler (Isle of Wight, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: X-Mini Max Stereo Capsule Speaker (Electronics)
Having been impressed by the bass performance of the mono X-mini I bought a X-mini max stereo pair only to be very disappointed at the lack of bass. Being an electronics engineer, I naturally took them apart to find out why. The answer is simple. The internal design and build quality is so poor that the bellows leaks like a sieve at both ends. This renders the clever bass resonator concept completely ineffective and produces copious amounts of bass distortion as the bellows puffs and wheezes its way through bass notes!
After properly sealing the bellows at the speaker end with silicone sealant and sealing the other end against the PCB with self adhesive neoprene foam tape (it has to slide), the bass resonator worked properly and the bass performance was transformed to a better level than the mono X-mini which therefore probably also had air leaks through poor build quality. Such a shame that a brilliant design concept has been ruined by an incompetent Chinese manufacturer!

Finally came across these. Attractive matt black rubberized finish, great quality for something so small, easy to pack into suit case and what a price. Thoroughly recommend at this stage!!
