Product Description

Product Description

Sixteen million mutants dead - and that was just the beginning! In one bold stroke, writer Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Batman) propelled the X-Men into the 21st century, masterminding a challenging new direction for Marvel's mutant heroes that began with the destruction of Genosha and never let up. Regarded as the most innovative thinker of the current comic-book renaissance, Morrison proceeded to turn the mutant-hero genre on its ear. Gone were the gaudy spandex costumes - replaced by slick, black leather and an attitude to match. Now, his entire Eisner Award-nominated run on New X-Men is collected across three titanic trade paperbacks! Collects New X-Men #114-126, and Annual 2001.

Absolutely brilliant 16 Mar 2009
By Frosty
Format:Paperback
Grant Morrison starts his epic run on the x-men. Spandex is gone, repaced by leather, and the team is cut to a handful, enabling better character development instead of characters running all over the place (like current uncanny x-men).
This volume is absolutely essential for Emma Frost fans like me who loves the sarcastic, cold, morally ambiguous character as it is the first time she has been put at the forefront of x-men lore, and where she joins the team. This is arguably the best part of Morrisons run. Other notable characters that appear include Lilandra, the Imperial Guard and new baddie Cassandra Nova, who shares a connection with Professor X.

THIS is what the X-Men SHOULD be!!! The X-Men for the 21st century.

Grant Morrison wrote New X-Men for three uninterupted years and had possible the most wide-spread fan and non-fan appeal out of any X-Book ever.

This book is fresh, smart, fast, witty, deep, clever, knowing, character-based literature. Gone are the boring, seen-it-before concepts and, frankly embarrassing tights.

What this book represents is a brave new approach to the X-Men and Marvel Comics in general. A startling book for the new millenium. It broke boundaries and you always had, when reading it, the impression that anything could happen, and it always did!

The look is fantastic, also. The Artwork, the new characters, suits, jets, settings and the design accross the board is astonishing.

Its a shame that Marvel dont put out X-Men stories half as good as this any more. This looks lightyears ahead of everything they are currently churning out and it was realesed in 2001.

A fantastic read for Fans and non-fans. For people who loved the movies and want to read the books, this is where they should start. X-cellent!!!!

THE GOOD: Totally modernised - say hello to the X-Men. New costumes, a new attitude and surprising new members. Throw in some outstanding art from Frank Quitely, Leinil Francis Yu and Ethan Van Sciver and marinade in the insane mind of genius writer Grant Morrison and you have a recipe for the best run on the X-Men in twenty years. This was a hard change for some to take, but isn't change what the X-Men are all about? Every idea is a logical one. And, as you'd expect from Grant Morrison, there are more ideas per issue than some writers have in a lifetime. Prepare to see these characters as you've never seen them before.

THE BAD: There's been a lot of whinging about Igor Kordey's art on this outerwise outstanding run. On this occasion, the whingers are right. It's bad. Or rather it doesn't suit this series. When you have one issue of his art followed by art by someone, anyone else, it's bearable. Two issues in a row are a struggle and almost bring this down to a four-star book. But it'd take more than that.

THE GERM FREE GENERATION: Oh look! New characters! haven't seen any of those in a while! OK, to be fair, there were a few before this run began, but nothing feels as fresh and exciting and current as a Grant Morrison comic. Even when you're reading it ten years after it came out. If I was John Sublime, I'd steal Grant Morrison's brain. And Frank Quitely's hands. Nothing from Kordey, though. Thanks for offering.
