X-Men: Evolution-Excellent X Action!, 3 Aug 2005
This review is from: X-Men Evolution - Season 1 Vol. 1: Unxpected Changes [DVD] (DVD)
X-Men: Evolution is the latest in a series of X-Men cartoons. I think this is the best. The costumes are modernised, the graphics are excellent and the voices, from Rogue's southern accent to Wolverine's snarls, are perfect. Episode summary: Strategy X: Cyclops (Scott Summers) has an "accident" with his optic beams while trying to defend Toad (Todd Tolanski) at a high school football game. Meanwhile, back back at the institute, Professor X (Charles Xavier) and Storm (Ororo Munroe) welcome newcomer Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner). 4/5 The X Impulse: Professor X (Charles Xavier) and Jean (Jean Grey) take the Blackbird to Chicago to meet Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde), a young girl with phasing abilities. They arrive just in time to save her from a new mutant menace-Avalanche (Lance Alberts). 4/5 Rogue Recruit: Cerebro tracks down Rogue (real name unknown) after she accidently steals the memories of a boy from her school. Mystique (Raven Darkholme) turns into Wolverine (Logan) and tries to scare her out of joining the X-Men. 5/5 All in all, a great X-Men adventure!

X-Men Evolution - UnXpected Changes, 28 Oct 2004

I enjoyed this along with the others in the series. A good mix of action, comedy & a dash of romance, with sub plots running through. I don't think it is done quite as well as the previous animated series, which has stories more in keeping with the ordinary X Men comics. Some of the characters (like Jean Grey) are given a far too angular face, gaining an unbecoming 'Jennifer Aniston' chin. But don't let that put you off as the graphics are otherwise good.

this is an excellent dvd tho i wouldnt recommend to newcomers to the x-men evolution universe. this is a rough synopsis for each episode: strategy x - jean and scott are at a school football match when todd tolanksy (toad), who just wants to be accepted by humans, causes an accident. when scott and jean are forced to use their powers, professor x arrives with wolverine and storm and he alters the witnesses memories. they then set off to pick up new recruit kurt wagner, a teleporter. this episode is very very good, and it shows the x-men starting to come together. the x-impulse - kitty pryde and lance alvers are both mutants at the same school. when badboy lance tries to corrupt kitty, jean attempts to befriend her. scared by her mutant power to phase through solid objects, kitty rjects jean and lance. but lance eventually persuades her to help get into the principal's office to get the answers to a maths test. however, on the night of the burglary, kitty realises what she's doing is wrong. lance gets angry, and unleashes the full force of his earth-shaking powers. meanwhile, jean has figured out what has been going on and flies into the office while professor x arrives with kitty's parents. in the exciting climax, lance lets loose and his powers run riot, threatening the lives of kitty, jean, professor x, and kitty's parents. this is good introductory episode for both lance and kitty. it also sets the stages for two main theads that continue throught the rest of x-men evolution: lance wanting to go out with kitty, and the two joining their different sides and opposing each other. there is also a backstory in this episode with cyclops, nightcrawler, and wolverine hunting down wolverine's arch-enemy sabretooth. rogue recruit- this episode introduces rogue and destiny. it also sort of introduces mystique, as she hasn't appeared as a main character yet. i won't spoil this one for you but this is a very atmospheric episode that may or may not join rogue with the x-men.
