Another beautiful X omnibus from VIZ Media! I'm really impressed with these compared to their other omnibus releases.

This book contains volumes 4 to 6 of X (aka X/1999) by the four member manga group CLAMP.
It is rated T+ for Older teens (16+) due to graphic violence, adult situations, nudity, mature theme, language etc.
Just like the first omnibus, it includes colour pages in between volumes and notes at the back.
The quality of the paper is still fantastic. The best I've ever seen from VIZ Media.

In these volumes, Kamui finds out a bit more of the truth and we get to see a glimpse of some of the character's pasts.
And Tokyo Babylon fans rejoice as we see the return of the characters from there! Don't worry if you haven't read that though as it explains who they are.

These omnibuses are some of the best quality English manga I've seen! It's big and heavy but easy to hold and the paper quality is so good that you can read the entire book without your hands feeling dry at the end! If only all English manga quality was this good.

Building Up To The Main Event 3 May 2012

CLAMP has once again delivered in this next edition of X omnibus, which contains volumes 4-6 of the manga. To sum it up, these three volumes were mostly about introducing the characters who make up the dragons of the earth (the seven angels, or to put it simply, the bad guys) and the dragons of heaven (the seven seals, aka good guys) and were also about introducing the reader to the main conflict of the novel (one side wants to destroy the earth in order for a rebirth to happen, and another wants to preserve it). There were some good action scenes, but there haven't been any major clashes between the seven seals and the seven angels. That of course, is to come in later volumes.
Still, there are some interesting developments that happen in these three volumes. I don't want to spoil anything,so I'll be vague:
1. There is something strange going on with Fuma, and he seems to have some special power.
2. Kamui's purpose in the conflict is revealed and so is the history of his family.
3. The end of the 6th volume is shocking, to say the least.
4. Remember how Tokyo Babylon didn't really have an ending? Well...

I think that CLAMP has been pacing this series very well. All of the backstory that has been included in this volume really adds to the reader's understanding of what's going on. Most of the players have been introduced (if anyone has read Tsubasa, you'll recognize almost all of the characters) and I hope that in the next three volumes, we'll see a fight between the dragons of earth and heaven. But in this volume, don't expect any epic clash between the two sides.

Once again, some amazing color pages have been included. The tarot cards have been included once again! The paper used is thick and of a great quality. This volume is easy to hold and I think that the spine holds up well. Overall, if you read the first omnibus volume and enjoyed it, chances are you'll like this one too.

Another Great Omnibus! 18 May 2012
By Renee Bailey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Viz does it again with another great omnibus of CLAMP's saga X.

In this volume we have what is volumes 4, 5, and 6 respectively. More of the Dragons of Heaven and Dragons of Earth are congregating to Tokyo, gearing up for the battle to happen; which will determine if humanity will live or die. Kamui is fighting himself, thinking about his choice: joining either side and thinking about what it is that he wants to protect.

Viz pulls out all the stops as it did with the last volumes. There is a short story about Sorota. There are Tarot illustrations that corresponding with the Japanese volumes. There are also many color pictures included with descriptions on when they first debut in the back of the book.

It's another great volume, and I cannot wait for Volume 3.

Not For Me ... 2 Jun. 2012
By Nicola Mansfield - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Reason for Reading: Next in the series.

This omnibus edition collects volumes 4-6 of the previously published series. The first Vol. (collecting vol. 1-3) left me intrigued but very confused, this being my first read by Clamp I didn't know what to expect. While I agree the artwork is absolutely gorgeous and the inclusion of the colour pages will certainly satisfy fans, I am underwhelmed by the series in general and will not be continuing. The story is still rather confusing, though this volume does get into the back story attempting to explain the whole plot so I did end up somewhat understanding the general concept. However, the characters really bothered me. One minute they are all serious about saving the world and the next they are acting like complete goofs. One guy is more interested in getting a girl to like him, one of the main female characters is so subservient and whiny it is painful and I can't get a grip on the main character Kamui. What's up with this guy who has major attitude and can't decide if he should follow his destiny of saving the earth or help destroy it? Tough choice to make, huh? There are also brief overtones of BL in this volume which is so not my thing that I do not want to go any further down that road. So, this story is not winning me over and I won't be continuing with the series. I don't know if it is typical of Clamp or not. I've always had xxxholic on my want to read list and am now not too sure.
