I saw this version of Romeo and Juliet as a teenager, it is a little dated now, but given the time it was made, still beautiful and heartbreakingly good, how anyone so young as Olivia Hussy was could interpret and convey so amazingly is astonishing, certainly a must for anyone studying the text.

Wuthering Heights
Oh dear! I live near the Haworth Moors, most of the landscapes in this version were were filmed in North Yorkshire; this may not seem important but North Yorkshire was an area familiar to the Brontes and there is a stark contract between the soft undulation of the dales and the rough brutality of the Pennine moors, having often thought the character of Heathcliff is essentially a direct comparision with the environment, seemingly beautiful and alluring but unpredicable and dangerous I think the point of setting was somewhat diluted.
The Wuthering Heights building was sadly a Hollywood pastiche and whilst Ralph Fiennes is stunningly handsome and Juliet Binoche looks the part as Cathy, sadly her portrayal of the blonde wigged Catherine is cringeworthy and unfortunately the accent does slip towards French, she's a great actress and would be amazing in a production of Madam Bovary but this film falls very short of the mark.
Every version of Wuthering Heights offers something as the story is so consumingly complex, I'd love to take the best of each to create the ultimate version, here's looking forward to the production being launched this summer but I hope the new Cathy can manage and English accent.

This is a double-dunter of the first magnitude! Simply outstanding both in content and cost. Zeferrelli's version of Romeo and Juliet has spoiled me for all others and even today, some 40 years later, it is still as vibrant, each frieze alive, dragging you into the houses of Capulet and Montague as if you were a player and part of the performance, rather than a voyeur. Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting were inspired choices as the eponymous lovers. Watch no other - watch this one! The version of Wurhering Heights is a particularly good one and adds great value to the purchase of R&J.

I first saw Romeo & Juliet may years ago & after hearing 'A time for us' from the film recently I decided to hunt it out & buy it. It is a truly timeless classic & you don't have to be a fan of Shakespeare to enjoy this. The casting was an inspiration & loved both Olivia Hussey & Leonard Whiting's performances. You know what going to happen but you still want to stop the inevitable!
I personally only bought it for Romeo & Juliet so can't make any comment about Wuthering Heights.

This dvd (Romeo and Juliet part) was needed in a hurry for exam revision for my son. It arrived in good time and was in excellent condition. I enjoyed watching it very much - Franco Zeferelli's version very atmospheric. Wuthering Heights a bonus. Very cheap second hand buy.

An old version but still romantic. A great introduction to the plot and helps students to visualise an Italian Renaissance world or claustrophobia, wit and passion.
