The closest so far 21 Jan 2008
Format:DVD
Having seen four versions of Wuthering Heights and read the novel many times for my website, I rate this as the closest version to the book. The acting is excellent, in particular I found Robert Cavanah as Heathcliff and Sarah Smart as Cathy Linton exactly as I imagined them. My only regret is that it wasn't longer: as there are two love stories in the book, 113 minutes isn't really long enough, especially as it was a TV series so could be longer than a movie. But, if you are reading the book and want the closest comparison, you could do far worse than watch this.

Not a disappointment 27 May 2007
Format:DVD
I studied this book to death at A-level, and so I did a lot of research into various versions of the film. Although I was a tiny bit dubious about buying it, I haven't been disappointed.

All the important scenes are in there (the only bit I don't like is that I imagined Cathy and Heathcliff to be a lot younger when they first encounter the Lintons). Also, there is no narration from Nelly, which is a shame.

Heathcliff's character is just as horrible and cruel as I have always pictured it. Macfadyen portrays Hareton wonderfully.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves the story.

This is the ultimate wuthering heights for me, you can actually feel the love, passion and anger. Robert Cavanagh is a superb Heathcliff and you really do believe in his character and sympathise with him despite his anger as he truly displays his vulnerable side as well. This story also goes beyond Cathy's death which some of the others fail to do. A must if you love Wuthering Heights.

Bad casting, poorly put together
This is an extremely poorly put together version of Wuthering Heights with really bad casting. It is evident that each actor tries quite hard individually but, at the same time,... Read more

Really good!
Apart from the most recent TV version, this is probably the best that I've seen so far. Sticks to the traditional story, but tells it in such a way that is coherent and enjoyable. Read more
