The 13 essays by German-speaking feminist exegetes are concerned with the problem of anti-Jewish ways of reading the Christian Bible. In their treatment of sample texts they consider such subjects as law, violence and impurity, and offer suggestions for overcoming anti-Jewish ways of reading the text without underplaying the genuine difficulties inherent in the text.

Review

'This excellent book serves not only to analyze the roots of anti-Judaism in Christianity but also to expose the way in which oppressive methods of exegesis were used to "keep women in their place".' Sanrie van Zyl, Religious Studies Review, 1999.
