I have read and enjoyed Shamim Sarif's previous novels and marvel at her ability to take such diverse subject matter and turn them into well-written and engaging books. So I was curious to read this new book based on her regular blog on her website to get an insight into her life as she wrote the novels, directed the films and raised a family.
Sarif writes in an extremely humorous way about daily life, showing us how hard it can be to juggle working and touring for the films / books with bringing up children, lamenting regularly about her partner pushing her, yet we can see that they have a thriving and amazing relationship which works. It makes us realise that we can do it all if we so wish. At the same time, she is not shy about confronting and talking about difficult matters such as her friend's battle with cancer.
This is a great book which you can either read cover to cover as a diary or just dip in and out of when you feel the need. It also has pictures of her on her tours and on film sets which are great fun. Buy the book!
