More About the Author

Welcome to my Author page! WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME! MY WAY! FIVE WEEKS!

Wrong Place Wrong Time is my first book and was encouraged by my family and friend/editor to put pen to paper/fingers to laptop and write.

It is based on events that happened in the early 90's when I visited Marbella, Spain where my dream holiday turned into the biggest nightmare of my life.

I am delighted to share that the book had become a #1 Best Seller in TRUE CRIME on Amazon in US, along with #2 in True Accounts in Japan and Australia, #1 in Factual in Spain and top #10 in UK. I am also amazed at the number of reviews, over 400 with over 249 x 5* so far! Thank you readers.

My second book is called MY WAY, its about how I have marketed Wrong Place Wrong Time, firstly because I was told I should and secondly to give new authors, like myself some tips.

My Way has received over 75 x 4/5* reviews from self-publishing authors from around the world.

My third book is called FIVE WEEKS, about one man's disturbing trip to America, where he was nearly left for dead in a remote Pennsylvania forest.

About the Author

y name is David P Perlmutter and I have a story to tell based on true events. There are moments in the story that I'm not proud of but also there are some that I am. You will have your own opinion of me, like some of the reviewers have stated in their reviews.

Oh my! What a fabulous book. I absolutely loved this story and especially as it is based on the author's real life experience. I was captivated and fully engaged from page 1. I know it's become a rather cliche thing to say in reviews but I genuinely could not put the book down and it was read in just over 4 hours. What struck me after I'd read it was how the author must always be looking over his shoulder and how must it feel to be a 'wanted' man? I consider the author to be so very brave to publish this novel. I understand why he felt compelled to do so and I'm full of admiration for him. It is written very well and is a definite page turner. If you love real life novels, this should be on your list of 'must reads'!

Let me begin by stating that I'm not big on True Crime stories, I do have a few books by former cops but it's not a genre that grabs me and I don't know why, it's just the way I am.
Nevertheless this book got my attention because of the way it's written, the language is fairly simple and the descriptions aren't dripping with adjectives but the story pulls you in pretty quickly. It's a true story about a young unemployed Brit who finds himself on the wrong side of the law in Spain. Most of us associate the Costa del Sol with beaches, bars and bikini-clad girls. The worst thing that can happen is a case of sunburn or a trip to the hospital after stepping on broken glass. Perlmutter however winds up accused of arson and manslaughter when a hotel burns down. Thrown into prison he is then brought before a judge without any attempt to question him and is faced with a dire choice when fate intervenes and he is granted bail, to stay and fight his case or run. Alone and isolated in a foreign country the walls start closing in and I'll leave it for you to read the book yourself.
As books go it's actually very well written and he does confess he's not a writer per se but there's a refreshingly simple tone to the book that makes it a very easy read. It's also what I call a cautionary tale of what can happen if you're not careful. Many visitors from Britain, North America and Australia in particular make rather naive assumptions about foreign countries when they get into trouble. They assume that the same Westminster/American justice system exists there as well. One only has to look at the case of Amanda Knox to realise that serious miscarriages of justice do occur.

What a nightmare fo David, an apt title. Well done for sharing this brilliant true story. It goes to show that anything, anywhere can happen to anyone and although much of it was because David had made the wrong choices he has earned his second chance at making the most of his life. It could have all gone badly wrong had he he stayed in Marbella. One place I will not be visiting! Easy reading, unable to put this book down until the end in just 3x days.

If this book has anything more than a fleeting connection with reality I will be amazed. He certainly is quick to blame everybody but himself for the situations he finds himself in. From the start, when done for driving under the influence of drink and drugs, he tries to excuse himself by claiming it was a momentary error. Unfortunately these moments seem to occupy most of his life.
Then Mr Superhero risks life and limb climbing 30 feet up the drainpipe of a burning building to rescue a damsel in distress. This after consuming beer and champagne all night at a party! Not content with one piece of heroism he then runs into said burning building, avoiding police and other emergency services, to try to rescue anybody else he can find. What he accidentally finds and then pockets are cash and credit cards. Once out of the building he has enough about him to hide the cash "because it's heavy" but 'forgets' to do the same with the credit cards.
If I seem to be giving too much of the story line away I make no apology as, if I can stop just one person wasting their money on this drivel I will be happy.

Hannibal Smith of "A-Team" fame was wont to say "I love it when a plan comes together." But what about when a plan comes apart? I had planned to spend three days reading David Perlmutter's book but got so engrossed that I finished it at one sitting. Problem was, I had chores to do and my wife hasn't yet forgiven me. Why one sitting? Well, because Wrong Place Wrong Time is so damn good. It ain't James Joyce - but then what is, apart from James Joyce?

David Perlmutter tells a true horror story that could well have been called David's Inferno. For someone who claims not to be an author he has produced a flawed, brilliant, raw account of a series of nightmares that he largely brought on himself. The element of tragedy is almost present because in theatrical tragedy the central character is in many ways responsible for his own downfall. But Perlmutter has come out the other end - chastened, wiser and better - to tell us an enduring morality tale which is in fact true. It is an account which must be read to be believed. And believe it I do.
