Product Description

When Gemma Sinclair and her bestfriends were fourteen, they sealed up letters containing their hopes and dreams (along with a packet of Lovehearts and a picture of Jason Donovan) in a time capsule. Now thirteen years later, Gemma stumbles upon the unopened box and the uncanny predictions her old friend Miranda had made about their futures. She had predicted the restless Fay wouldn't find it easy to settle down, that beauty therapist Nikki would wear a white coat and that nursery teacher Gemma would be surrounded by children not her own. Gemma is inclined to dismiss this all as mere coincidence, especially as she has long since lost contact with Miranda. But when her commitment-phobic boyfriend, Adam, surprises her with a proposal, Gemma is both excited and alarmed. For though Gemma has always thought Adam was her Mr Right, Miranda had also warned her not to marry the first person who asked her. .

A well crafted story from a writer who is becoming comfortable and more confident with each book.

This time it's a case of what if's for the central characters of Gemma & Adam and her friends Fay & Nikki, will their plans for happy ever after be de-railed by a tin containing crumbling sweets, pictures of Jason Donovan!! and a long forgotten list of guesses for the future made by someone they once spent a long ago New's Year eve with.

As the predictions seem to be coming spookily true they all begin to second guess themselves and the choices they are making, are they rushing into things, is their true love still waiting out there for them or have they really found it already?

And so we embark on another well written journey through the lives of our characters as they stumble through some hilarious and painful episodes trying to find their way towards the futures they long for and deserve.

Once again Sarah has delivered with another enjoyable story of girlie life and it's ups and downs. A well crafted tale and a joy to read. She gets better with each book and and her writing stronger.

So if you would like to spend a time with well rounded characters in an absorbing and fun tale of life then get this book and curl up in your favourite comfey reading spot and lose yourself for a while.

Cute book and well done. I'd have to say it's a young woman's book , since the characters seem so very naïve. Yet I clearly remember doing some of the very same things when I was young - looking for "signs" that I'd found the right guy (or would soon find the right guy). I love the way the story evolves and I found the ending very satisfying - ultimately saying a lot about what real love is. I'll definitely look for other book by this author.

Simply Terrific! 11 Aug 2004
By Annette
Format:Paperback
Another enjoyable, fun, fantastic read by Sarah Ball! I adored Nine Months and Marry Me, so I've been very anxious to read her latest effort, Written in the Stars, and just as I had expected it was yet again another un-put-down-able, whimsical, must read!

This is the story of Gemma and Adam, a seemingly idlylic couple who are just starting out on the next phase of their relationship, (the 'love, honor, and cherish for now and forever phase' of the relationship). Everything seems to be going smoothly, Adam asks Gemma to marry him (in a truly unique setting I might add), the ring is bought and tentative wedding plans are made. Everything seems to be going well, or are they?

Doubts soon bubble to the surface as Gemma begins to wonder if she is making the right decision and soon enough, 'signs' seem to be everywhere pointing out that perhaps her fears are not as unfounded as she had thought. Then the clincher, a time capsule buried away long ago in the confines of her closet are discovered with some startling predictions that were made in the past about the future further Gemma's jitters about her relationship with Adam. But Gemma is not the only one affected by these predictions. Gemmas's friends Fay and Nikki have also recieved predictions of their own and soon everyone is second guessing every aspect of their lives since the predictions were made.

Ball does a great job of putting a contemporary spin on the 'cold feet' theme by bringing in all sorts off new elements that keep the book interesting and moving along nicely. With humorous bits, and well-rounded, REAL characters, along with plenty of self-deprecating humor along the way, Written in the Stars is a breezy wonderful story that leaves you believing in the power of love! I loved this book! It was truly an enjoyable read! Another winner for Sarah Ball!
