5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant little book..for your Computer ! 12 Aug 2011

This is a very special little book. Have you ever wondered where certain words originate, what they really mean and what about all those funny English words that sound the same but mean something really quite different, like access and excess , write, right and incite and insight to name but a few.
This little gem also covers the English Language itself, from adjectives to adverbs, nouns to prepositions. Everything is simply and clearly explained so that you come away not only feeling slightly more clever but also with a great little book in which to impress your friends.
I write a lot of on-line articles and having 'Written English' on my desktop, really has saved me a lot of wasted time seeking out the right word in a given context and I also believe it has improved my writing, and has allowed me more depth and fluidity in my writing.
I recommend along with many of my colleagues to get hold of a copy of this great little book and take advantage of it's fascinating insights.

! was at school during the WW2 and atttended 7 schools over a period of 2 years. I left one school not having reached nouns and verbs to fine the next school had already moved on to the next stage. There have been big gaps in my knowledge of Written English until now. Thankyou Duncan for a simple easy to read explanation.
