As a newcomer to the Early Church fathers, I found this study aid very useful in giving me the essential details of Justin Martyr's life and works.
These 'Shepherd Notes' comprise an Introduction which includes information on the place of Justin Martyr's works in Christian Literature/Apologetics, helpful historical and theological background and a summary of Justin Martyr's thought on various subjects.
The second part of the book gives excellent overviews of his First and Second Apologies and Dialogue with Trypho the Jew. These are explored with discussion on dates, purpose and audience as well as summaries of each chapter with relevent bible verses, helpful comments and suggestions for discussion.
In all, a clear, concise introduction, written in plain English, with 'value added' margin notes and useful titbits of information to aid understanding and enrich study.
