Product Description

The recent explosion of unsolicited material written for the world's greatest, sexiest entertainment medium has largely produced a mountain of wasted paper. Truth is, the many who write from scratch, no matter how talented, have more chance of winning the lottery than creating an excellent script. The few who achieve success do so because they have shed the blood, sweat and tears necessary to master the elaborate art and craft of Screenwriting. This book explodes the myth that a screenplay is the easiest literary form to master, navigates a relatively painless path through the Screenwriting labyrinth, and offers an easy to digest step-by-step guide to writing a script from inception to completion. What's in it? The main areas covered are: Motivation; Research & Development; Genre; Idea; Story & Plot; Audience; Character; Action & Setting; Structure; Format; Dialogue; Synopses & Treatments; Drafts; Marketing & The Industry. There's also a glossary of commonly used jargon to further demystify the process.

By J. lee
Format:Paperback
This little book should be read by everyone thinking of writing a feature movie. Right at the beginning he points out how the vast majority of spec scripts range from poor to awful, and that in Britain we have a problem.

It contains very useful insider knowledge, which is concisely written. We need to know this content, exactly what the standard structure and backstory is before we even attempt to type anything into our first draft.

The book emphasizes planning and preperation and motivation (big issue), and states the key steps in the process of writing a screenplay (FOR FEATURE MOVIES).

For such a small amount of money it's an absolute steal.

I bought this as part of my writing course with John Costello. A very easy to read, easy to follow book with some great tips and examples. Essential reading for anyone embarking on a screenwriting career - or even thinking about it. Written with passion, honesty and a deep understanding of the process.

It's ok 8 Mar 2010
By Dutch Detective - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book covers a lot, and it's ok, but I disagree with the review comparing it with McKee. True to the premise of the series, the essentials are covered. There are some interesting points made too. However, if you opt to buy a bigger, better, course in screenwriting, you won't be spending much more to get it, and you won't be missing anything by not having this book.
