An Essential Tutorial Aid,

This review is from: The Art of Writing Reasonable Organic Reaction Mechanisms (Hardcover)
I found a copy of this book on a table in the library while revising and started reading it as a displacement exercise. Tragically my skiving failed as I got sucked in and learnt some useful chemistry for the next days exam. A great strength in its ability to engage interest however reluctant the student (My friend told me to get back to my notes and took the book. He couldn't put it down either). It is pitched at a level between the instructional Carey and the starchy March and its organisation allows it to emphasise the underlying similarities between reactions that encourage undergraduates to learn principles rather than buckle under the strain of memorising scores of specific schemes in a way that many lecturers fail to manage.

A ladder between under and graduate.,

This review is from: The Art of Writing Reasonable Organic Reaction Mechanisms (Hardcover)
When I took organic class at graduate level, I was really bombed by the reactions. It seems the teacher is only keeping on throwing us the reactions until we are dead or surrendered(dropped). After one year frustrated struggling, I found this book and knew there is another way to approach the organic chemistry -- systematic approach. With this book, you can build up your own fundamental organic knowledge; you can really understand reactions not just memorize them for the sake of tests; you can efficiently learn something instead of forgetting them all after the tests. In my view, this book is by far the best organic book for the first year graduate student. It's a ladder between the undergraduate and graduate. It really gives broad and clear idea of what organic chemistry is going on and provides solid foundation for further studies.
