From the Author

Alanna Lynott and Solange Berchemin are two writers who currently specialise in journalism, particularly on the web. Like any self-respecting journalist, they both have half-finished novels in their desk drawers for which they hope to find a publisher (if they ever finish them!). They know how challenging it is to earn a living from writing, which gives them a tremendous respect for those who do so at the highest level - such as the authors interviewed here. As Alanna puts it, "I am exactly the type of person the book is aimed at - I am halfway through a novel of my own and fall prey to all those doubts and mistakes any other writer does. Because of this I could ask the right questions."

Knowing what it can be like to want to write for a living, they took on the challenge of interviewing some most established authors alive today and asked them questions many fans and would-be-writers would like to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars The missing magic potion 31 Oct 2010
By Ritu
The clever idea of using authors' portraits in Black and White adds the missing magic potion, brewed by writers charm and their histories, for those who are keen to increase their knowledge about the literary world.

This incredible collection bound in Black and White with photo collage inlaid in lacquered front cover is a perfect Christmas gift for your loved ones who are interested in the histories of influential literary artists. The editors' have presented writers' diligent voyage from next door boy/girl to eminent authors quite cleverly.

The inspirational quotes in each auto/biographical account will leave the reader motivated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aspire and be inspired. 30 Oct 2010
By Cinna
For those who see writers as solitary creatures hiding behind their words like a veil or curled up in their parallel worlds, this book presents them candidly, shining a spotlight into what drives them; their stories complemented by portraits that infuse personality to their words.

Writers in Black and White is beautiful to look at and it's for anyone who's been toying with that pen or rattling the keyboard, waiting for inspiration to strike. All of the authors were at that raw beginning...and got to the other side.

For any aspiring writers, this is a chance to see how these authors moved from the ideas stage, to the flow of words on a page.
