5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and encouraging 21 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a delightfully easy book to read and work with. There is a different topic given for each day of the year,(and extra) all are challenging, inspiring and enjoyable. The topics are sandwiched between loads of tips and advise on the various aspects of writing all through the book. It is extremely encouraging, I love the fact that it induces no guilt feelings. If this book were a fruit it would be a delicious, juicy, ripe mango.

In her Introduction, Judy Reeves reminisces about a writing practice session when the topic was Footprints. In a trice I was off to my keyboard to tap out that image, carried with me all these years, of an immaculately vacuumed brand new carpet upon which I had, unthinkingly, just walked.
This book contains a year in the writing life: each month contains a Guideline; a discussion of subjects such as How To Start; Perfectionism; Slow Down etc. The Beyond Practice sections are about A Writing Date or Cafe Writing; Hot Nights/Wild Women(For Men Too)or Writing Marathons. Hundreds of rousing exercises for the slothful writer, curious snippets of literary lore & legend abound & it's all in good fun & eminently useful!
This is a keeper, one your local writers would be glad to own! Do check out my full review.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Writer's Book of Days 16 Dec 2010
By Tami Brady TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
If you want to be a writer, you have to write. You can't just think about writing or dream that someday you may put words down on paper. You also can't expect that you'll sit down and in three weeks you'll have the next great American novel. No, you have to write.
A Writer's Book of Days looks to create a writing habit. Writing needs to be done everyday, a regular writing appointment so to speak. Pen to paper. Write to write, not necessarily working on one particular piece but writing whatever happens to be on your mind, without editing or judgements. In the process, you will learn about how you write, your writing style, and what you have to say to the world.

A Writer's Book of Days is a wonderful resource for those dreaming of becoming a writer. It gives them a place to start and encourages them to practice and play with words. I think it also teaches them the important lesson that good writing comes in cycles and spurts.
