Writing life stories is enjoying enormous popularity and anyone about to venture into this exciting world can do no better than have Michael Oke (and Cherry Gilchrist) at their right hand. The 'why' and the 'how' are clearly explained and every encouragement given for those times when we all wonder 'what is the point' or when we retreat into excuses like 'I do not have time - at the moment'. In a series of books that gently guide beginner and more advanced writer alike, Michael Oke has over the years helped to make the challenge of writing down our histories much more achievable. His experience writing and teaching speak for themselves. Anyone wanting help along the way will benefit from his guidance; be sure though not to go on putting it off till you do have time . . . it may be that as the song said, 'It's later than you think'.

I hardly put this down once I started reading. Having just completed my family tree and organised years of letters, cards, memoirs this book is the aide memoir for everyone
The author leads you through all the necessary phases of thought, information collection, through to actually writing. It's very easy to read, you can "jump" about with the chapters if you wish but above all DON'T start to write your memoirs without carrying out some of the suggested exercises by the author
So is that a little black book in my handbag? No. It's the collection of my thoughts guided by this book
