“If you can take a piece of life and put it in a song,” says Jon Pardi, “it’s going to be a good song—especially if it's from the heart.”

It’s a formula he has followed since his days learning his craft with bands in his native California, and in the years since, he has become, both on stage and in the studio, one of country music’s ... Read more in Amazon's Jon Pardi Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent country music debut with an edge 21 Jan 2014
Format:Audio CD
There are many that say country myusic is all pop or rock and there isn't really any country music anymore. I disagree with that view. Country music has evolved and it has moved with the times and there is some wonderful new country music being produced. if it didn't it would be long gone. Some of it sounds a bit samey (like all music) and some of the new releases whilst good do not offer anything new or fresh. On hearing this new artist, I sat up and listened. There can be no doubt he is country. There are the clear influences from Texas, Bakersfiled and the more traditional country music. However it is not a retro album, it is 'new country'. It is music with feeling and attitude. It is album with plenty of toe tappers and catchy songs. His voice is not as smooth as many so he sounds different to many which is a good thing; he stands out from the crowd. This is a refreshing and exciting debut from a new artist. Those who like Dwight Yoakam or country with attitude might well enyoy this. I certainly did. A great debut. A great listen. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC album. My new favorite. 14 Jan 2014
By Luke Sabbann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a fantastic album, and you won’t be disappointed. I’ve listened to the album over two times now, and I can’t think of a song that I don’t like. Jon Pardi WILL be a major country artist in the next several years. He just has too much talent (and personality/swagger) not to be!

The sounds of the different songs are wide ranging – from more classic banjo/fiddle (“Love You From Here”) to swingy/rocky (“Trash A Hotel Room”) – while still staying true to their country roots. In an time where the country music industry keeps pumping out the same poppy garbage, it’s VERY refreshing to hear something like this, with its own unique sound.

Love this whole album! Jon Pardi is a little bit rock n roll, even some punk rock sound mixed in with a whole lot of country! Shout out to the Dixon, California kid!

I bought it the day it came out and I still listen to it often. I like almost every track on it. He's great in concert too.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to listen to 13 Mar 2014
By ms7ven - Published on Amazon.com

This album is packed full of gems. Doesn't come across too pop heavy like most other mainstream country artists today, and most importantly, feels very genuine.

Stand out tracks:
- What I can't put down
- Up all night
- Missin you crazy
- Happens all the time (probably the best track)
- That Man
- Write you a song

The only critique is a handful of songs are a bit strange, like "trash a hotel room," and maybe seems a little out of place, but hardly take away from the rest of the album. Very easy to listen to, and unlike the rest of country music released today, it doesn't hail from the land of "trying too hard."
