5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for all poets at all levels 29 Jan 2013
This book is wonderful not only for the insider information on how to increase your chances of getting published but for the excellent practical exercises - inspiring for poets at all stages of development. I've attended workshops on both sides of the Atlantic and I can say that Matthew Sweeney - one of the authors - is a brilliant teacher who elicits amazing results from his students. Reading this book is the next best thing to doing a live workshop with Sweeney himself.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on poetry 16 Sep 2011
By Scribe
I was initially put off by the book's title which gave me the impression of a bad/quack writing guide (as so many are) which this is definitely not.

This is one of the best books about contemporary poetry for a poet wishing to develop, find new ideas and inspiration, and to learn more about form and technique. It has plenty of exercises to keep me busy, which although would be best explored in a group setting (as they're evidently designed for), I wouldn't feel stupid about doing at home on my own. It's a resource that I can see myself dipping into time and time again.
