5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is a Treasure Chest If You Want To Write a Book!

November 15, 2012

By Diane Chesson

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase

At first, I wasn't sure I wanted to read this book - I don't want to write or even read a book that was written in hours. But I'm glad I took a second look. This book is a treasure chest absolutely filled with good advice and good links for the beginning and the advanced writer as well.

Although the author says that the average ebook is 20 to 40 pages long, this book is much longer (100 pages) and LOADED with solid info about all the aspects of what it takes to write an ebook. It has more links to useful products and services than I've seen anywhere. These are not affiliate links for which he will be paid; these are useful links for all kinds of services or products you will need.

The price is crazy. This book is a steal! Thanks, Dr. Benton!

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title and Little Helpful Information 15 Dec 2012
By Dreams In Bloom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book should be re-titled something like How to Sell Your Kindle Book Via Email as there is almost no information on how to write a book in it.

The introduction stresses "quality over quantity" when writing your Kindle eBook, although this book doesn't seem to quite follow its own advice. I have read much worse ebook/Kindle books than this, but this one still could use a good editor. There are quite a few mistakes. And there is a lot of padding or "blathering"...example, the beginning of the part on advertising (which most of the book is about) the author goes on a long spiel about things like television commercials and various other things related to advertising in general...but in no way is helpful to you to sell your ebook.

The first chapter explains some info about getting your book published as an ebook (such as getting a book cover and choosing a price). It's a bit backwards, as this info should come after explaining how to write a book.

Chapter 2 does tell "somewhat" how to write a book...if you call explaining how to use an "article spinner" (software that replaces the original words of something with similar words) of previously written Private Label Rights articles "writing." It mostly provides a tutorial on how to use the author's favorite spinner.
Chapter 3 is very short as it only briefly mentions hiring other people to do the writing for you.

After you've read this confusing and vague information on "spinning" pre-written content...congratulations, you don't need to know anything more about writing (much of this book itself seems to have been "re-spun" content). You will then be subjected to the rest of this book about Advertising that is filled with irrelevant photos (including photos of women's breasts). Even if all this book did was explain how to alter Private Label Rights articles into a "book" and hiring authors to write info for you....that alone is a subject that deserves more detail than is provided in this ebook.

It does have some gems of useful information, so I won't give it just one star and will give it two.

Also, I will note that the formatting of this ebook on my phone was very messed up. It was much easier to read it on my computer where the text and pictures showed up as the author intended. There are also some "screenshots" that are completely illegible and thus useless.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Serious Typo 17 Aug 2012
By Howard Lee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
On the very first page of the introduction, the author makes the statement:

"The first thing I want to teach you is the most important thing: ALWAYS OUBLISH QUALITY WORK! DO NOT PUBLISH JUNK!"

Considering the context, this glaring typo really stands out. Maybe it was an intentional error to demonstrate how such an error at the very beginning of a document can make the whole thing seem worthless. Or maybe the entire work has little value...but hey it didn't cost anything.

9/19/2012 This is an update on my earlier reveiw. I got past the "Serious Typo" and read the book. At the end Dr.Benton supplied a link and requested an honest opinion of his book. I took the opportunity to point out his mistake. The very next day I received an email of thanks and a newly edited copy of his book. I'm guessing that he has updated other copies online (I am not sure).

The book was actually quite informative.
