I give this bood 5 stars as I was immensely delighted with Sophie King's "how to Write Your First Novel". This is due to the fact that she speaks of her own struggles and her own difficult journey of writing. Her references to other good writers were very useful indeed e.g. Sophie Kinsella and Fay Weldon, her examples allowed me to explore further and this took my mind off over other difficulties in my life. I was so impressed that I even did some of the exercises she recommended.
This book was readable and written in a friendly way, and therefore was able to finish it.
As I could not find other Sophie Kings at my Library, on writing short stories, I picked up another author's work, which was quite heavy going and only read bits of it. So I intend to stick with Sophie King and read her stuff to inspire me.
I emailed her and she was kind enough to email me back.
I have started my short story, as she says it is difficult to launch into your first novel so a short story would be a good start. Her tips have already improved my writing style, and I actually like my work for the first time due to her encouragement.
I do cruises and she lectures on cruises, so I hope to meet her one day. She reminds me of Shirley Trevana whose painting style I admire. I had a difficult time painting my picture, which I finished eventually. Likewise I hope that I continue with my short story and be inspired by Shopie King and finish it.
