Reviews

Based on the award-winning comic by Paco Roca, Wrinkles portrays the poignant and charming friendship between Emilio and Miguel, two elderly gentlemen shut away in a care home. Recent arrival Emilio who is in the early stages of Alzheimer is helped by new roommate Miguel to avoid doctors discovering his ongoing deterioration. In order to avoid ending up on the feared top lost causes floor, Miguel employs all kinds of elaborate and comical stunts throughout their tedious day-to-day routine. This struggle helps shape a genuine and strong relationship between the two of them, because although for some their lives are coming to an end, for Emilio and Miguel it is just beginning. This astonishing story of humanity, friendship and the fragility of old age will make you laugh and cry in equal measures.

This is, without doubt, one of the most touching animated films I've ever seen. Wrinkles tells the story of several elderly characters dealing with Alzheimer's, old age and the inevitable end, creating a beautifully powerful and moving film.

Wrinkles manages to mix laughs and heart-breaking scenes perfectly, which allows the movie to be uplifting and warming, despite the emotional subject. The animation itself is stunning! Many of the scenes in this movie simply wouldn't work without the magic of animation. The characters are hugely believable and you'll find yourself falling in love with all of them (especially Martin Sheen's character!).

I'd recommend this to all fans of cinema (both lovers of animated films and those who don't usually watch them).

This is a short, poignant story about the elderly Emillio, who is placed in a care home when his family can no longer cope with his advancing Alzheimer's. His room mate Miguel is gregarious but also wily, happily taking advantage of his relative fitness and full faculties to fleece his companions for 10 euro here and there. As he bonds with Emillio, he shows a more caring side, using his tricks to keep his new friend from being transferred 'upstairs' where those who can't look after themselves at all go.
The animation is deceptively simple showing the detailed world of Emillio and the other residents as they go about their daily routines. Some have their own back stories which are beautifully realised in flashback. The animation captures in a few lines more expression than some actors manage is their entire career. There will be tears before the end, unless you are particularly stony-hearted.
Martin Sheen voices Emillio in the English version. You can also listen to it in the original Spanish, with the option of English subtitles.

I can't recommend this highly enough. Honestly one of the most moving animations I've seen in a very long while. Very touching at times and it had a long lasting effect on me. I need to see this again when it comes out. Highly recommended!

Well made dvd - good graphics and English voice overs. Personally I found it a bit depressing but that was only because of the subject matter and possibly my age (66). Younger viewers may well enjoy it more.

I really enjoyed Wrinkles however I did watch it with my dad who is a psychiatric nurse specializing in alzheimers. He enjoyed it although he did struggle with some of the incorrect aspects of the film in relation to the disease.

Me as a person with average amount of knowledge on the disease I really enjoyed this film a fun story that highlights some issues with care homes and shed some light on a disease that most people have little knowledge about.
