It only took me a couple of days to breeze through this book. I truely enjoyed seeing the perspective of someone who is looking at it from the bookers point of view.

If you are a wrestling fan and especially an independent wrestling fan then this is DEFINETLY a book for you.

Don't deny yourself a great wrestling read !!!!

The author loves wrestling and followed his dream to be involved in the business. Genetics prevented him being an actual in-ring performer so he tried his hand at being a promoter/reporter. This is the story of his career so far.

I found the book to be a quick and easy read, it was enjoyable to a certain extent.

The thing that bugged me is that the author tended to lay blame on regular occasions on others. Some of the blame appears to be warranted while other parts of it could/should have been prevented if the author himself had been more proactive and actually followed up on what other people had been doing.

A case in point is where a wrestling event had been organised and on the day of the event, the author arrives to find that his co-promoter had booked a venue that was totally inappropriate. Now I can understand the frustrations of the author but these sort of matters need to be looked at by you, don't rely on others to do the correct thing unless you know that they are capable and have proven themselves to be competent.

All in all, an ok read.
A good Book 17 Oct 2006

At last, some one has stepped forward and told us the truth. Wrestling's Underbelly from Bingo Halls to Shopping Malls by Jimmy Van is an eye-opening book written by someone who has been on the "inside" both as a wrestler and a promoter. Once the lights are down, the makeup has come off and the crowds have left, what goes on outside the squared circle? Jimmy Van takes us on an incredible tour of what it is like with "life with the big boys" and tells of some of the things that happen all in the name of entertainment with the bottom line to make money for everyone concerned. Come walk with Jimmy as you meet some of the characters that you have heard about all of your life and learn what they are really all about. This book is a must read for any wrestling fan, or simply for those who want to know about sports entertainment.
