Steer Clear! 14 Jan 2008
By ck 1391
Format:DVD
I bought this dvd hoping for an infusion of wrestling and horror but i was really let down. Firstly, it is incredibly short and for a film about a killer wrestler , we see NO wrestling involved in the killer's actions. Instead, the film seems to be more interested in the filmakers and not actually the killer wrestler. In the end this film was of such poor quality that i returned it and i would definently NOT recommend this film to any wrestling/horror fans.

Relying heavily on plot from previous slasher movies, "Wrestlemaniac" is an enjoyable tribute to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", Mexican wrestling movies of the Sixties and Seventies, and a hint of Scooby-Doo!!

After being warned not to travel to La Sangre De Dios, the Scooby Gang, I mean, the low budget porn film-makers become involved in a cat-and-mouse game with the deranged left-overs of a Mexican Government experiment gone wry - El Mascarado ( played with eye-rolling relish by Rey Misterio, Snr ).

Nicely filmed, some great set pieces, and with some genuinley creepy and nasty moments, this little gem deserves to be embraced by the horror/slash, stalk fraternity; we need more of these type of filmakers, and I applaud their efforts.

The disc is very much a bare-bones release; you get the film , with scene access, and two trailers, but for other movies.

And as for the Scooby-Doo reference, well, the gang drive a camper-van, the character of Tim, is so, Shaggy and......watch the film!!!!

Could have been fun 23 Jun 2011
Format:DVD
It had potential to be campy but never really bothered to be scary/gory, nor did they play up the T&A. A little more creativity and it could've been fun. The ending was a bizarre (he can bust through walls but he couldn't bust out of the main gate all these years?)and disappointing twist. Several of the characters die in the most disinteresting and brief way (one girl gets nauseated, runs outside for like half a mile to puke, then continues to wonder another half mile further from society barefoot to briefly meet her death at the hands of the wrestler).

Where was the clothesline (literally) from hell?

Where was the powerbomb off a roof?

Where was the diamond cutter that ripped someones head off?

How can you do a film about a whack pro wrestler and not do anything clever like that?

There is tons of foul language, sexual references and drug use of course but very little nudity .

In summary, if you're hoping for Mexican wrestling / the T&A promised in the trailer / gore / a scary thriller you won't get it.
