"Wray's Three Track Shack" is a compilation of three of Link's albums from the 70s, "Link Wray", "Beans & Fatback" and "Mordicai Jones". I bought the eponymous record in the early 70s after hearing the Howlin' Wolf track "Tail dragger" on the 'Old Grey Whistle test' and really liking its raw, earthy sound. The record was recorded on Link's home-made 3-track (count 'em 1-2-3!?!) studio in a chicken shack and contains other raw gems in a similar style, a mixture of rock, blues and country. I really like the tracks "Fire and Brimstone" (which was covered by the Neville Brothers), "Juke Box Mama" "Crow Bar" and the dog-rough version of Leadbelly's "In the pines", which sounds like the White Stripes/Black Keys. My favourite track is "Black River Swamp", a slow, plaintive ballad that somehow manages to have the best stereo separation I've ever heard.
