After learning the shocking truth of the world’s greatest adversary, Leitos Valara must gather an army strong enough to defeat the Bane of Creation. He has few warriors to choose from, and most are unwilling to stand with him. But the final battle between humankind and demon-born will be fought, even if he must face the wrath of the Fallen alone.

Q & A with James A. West—Wrath of the Fallen

Question: Wrath of the Fallen is the fourth and final book of your Heirs of the Fallen series. The pacing is fast, and the end is a stunner. Without giving too much away, why did you decide to end the series in this way?

James: That’s tough to answer without spoilers. I can say there is a strong and repeated hint throughout the series that explains why the series had to end in the way it does.

Q: Maybe a hint about the hint?

JW: Not a chance. I’ve always resisted the tendency to spell out everything for the reader. This is not out of spite, but I hate it when an author force-feeds me every detail, character motivation, and plot twist, thus denying me the chance to imagine or think for myself. Moreover, if I had ended Wrath of the Fallen in the conventional fairytale way, it would have robbed the entire series of its originality.

Q: Do you think fans will like the ending?

JW: I do. But the truth is, you cannot please everyone. For example, some readers thoroughly enjoyed the ending of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and others were outraged. The same goes for Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. I’m sure there are plenty more instances where that holds true. All I can do is reveal the story as it comes to me, and hope fans don’t show up on my front lawn waving torches and pitchforks.

Q: So what does the future hold for James A. West?

JW: I have another fantasy series in progress, Songs of the Scorpion, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. As is usually the case, I have more ideas than years left to write them all, so the best thing is to check back every few months and see what I’ve been up to.

About the Author

James A. West is the bestselling author of the epic fantasy series Heirs of the Fallen, and the heroic fantasy series Songs of the Scorpion. Between gritty quests, he recently decided to dip a toe into the primordial sludge from whence he sprang, and penned the dystopian thriller, Beasts of the Field. James is a native of the Pacific Northwest, but life is a road of many turns. He served in the US Army, spent a year as a long-haul truck driver with his wife (who also happens to be his high-school sweetheart), and attended the University of Montana. He lives in Montana with his wife. His bodyguard, a Mini-Schnauzer named Jonesy, is always near to hand. James has been known to work for chips and salsa. While James spends most of his time navigating alternative realities, he periodically comes up for air at: jamesawest.blogspot.com

Lost interest as this was far too drawn out. I feel this was one book too many and would have been better as a trilogy.
