4.0 out of 5 stars good and varied selection of styles 4 Jun 2009
Contrary to the previous reviewers somewhat harsh and subjective comments, I would say that there are a good selection of various different styles and types of crocheted shawls, wraps, scarves and jackets here, with interest for the beyond-basics crocheter. Something for everybody (apart from reviewer 1 obviously!). I would also suggest, if you are interested, looking this book up on Ravelry where you will see all the patterns and photos of actual ones crocheted and modelled by real people.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent selection of shawls 28 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Again, I disagree with the first reviewer and think that while a few of the designs need a little modifying for increased wearability, the majority of them are lovely. It is all about your own personal taste of course, but there are many classic type shawls in here which would be lovely on almost anyone. Several are evening type shawls so any age could wear one as a pretty wrap for an evening event.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bitterly disappointed 27 May 2010
There was one particular pattern I bought this book for. When I came to do it I found massive errors on the pattern. I tried the second favourite and yet again, more mistakes. These errors are available from publishers website but who wants to pay good money for a book full of mistakes. I have spent time and money searching for the errors and having to make colour prints of four corrected pages. It's diabolical to let such faults go through to print. I hope the Interweave publishers see this and offer a free reprinted book to us poor unfortunates. Don't buy this edition - wait for the next corrected run.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wrapped in Ectasy!! 1 Mar 2011
Kristin Omdahl is fantastic and such a talented artist. This book is absolutely amazing. There are so many gorgeous projects to choose from. The instructions are easy to follow even though it is written for the American market. I am an experienced Crocheter and have made several garments using American patterns so it does not pose a problem for me. Do not let the American stitches put you off. Simply follow the stitch explanations featured at the back of the book and you will be fine.

The patterns have been made up using quite expensive yarns, however, for a really special garment I think it would be well worth the cost. Alternatively, substitute a less expensive yarn, (I do that most of the time) and the pattern will still work out nicely. Some of the patterns look complicated but do not be faint of heart, remember crochet stitches are simple and a pattern is only made up of groups of these stitches so be brave!

Kristen explains hairpin lace crochet, broomstick, tunisian and regular crochet with patterns for each. My personal favourites are guinevere, maya, stella, farrah and blaze. The photos and diagrams are excellent as are the instructions and notes. It is well worth reading it cover to cover before embarking on a project, especially if you are new to crochet as Kristin offers lots of tips and explanations. This is a wonderful book and I love it. I am sure you will too.
