Osibisa was a joy to see live. As an uptight fourteen year old English boy who fancied himself as a bit of a hairy but still had to pass muster at school-dancing with joy was, well uncool. But this was music to celebrate. For the serious there was Dudu Pukewana and Assagai but Osibisa were the band to set the house alight with African sun, good vibes and just fun. And this was London in the era of progressive near heavy metal merchants and super groups formed to wilt under the weight of their own expectation. So into the studio. The first album Osibisa, was good. Woyaya has its moments. The beggining. But some of it such as 'move on' is a bit too busy. But this album is worth the price of the first three tracks and the finale Woyaya. All fisrt three Osibisa albums occupy a special place in my collection, get played from time to time and have lasted the distance. Good music always deserves our thanks and Osibisa were one of the best affordable gigs in the small clubs around London where packing them in was a crowd of fifty kids. You want something warm, good hearted and full of great energy. Buy this, Osibisa or Heads and have a ball.

From the opening bars of 'Beautifull Seven' we are transported to a tropical jungle during a rainstorm and the scene is set. No one before or since has been able to marry African rhythms, brass, keyboards and guitar in the way Osibisa can. One can feel in this performance thier absolute pleasure at laying all this down, even producer the legendary Tony Visconti admits that it took till this, the second album before he could faithfully capture the Osibisa sound.Gut wrenching bass and guitar with layer upon layer of brass, woodwind, percussion and drums give a full clean sound, never overdone. 'We give you our treasure' they sing, most definately.

I only knew the first album, the eponymous Osibisa, back in the 70s, which I have recently re bought and is brilliant in my view. From that I wanted more so got this one, which is worth having but less good for me. It's gone more in the direction of Soul music whereas I really liked all the African drumming, rythms, singing, whistles etc combined with the rock and sax, that is so strong on their first effort and not so much of in Woyaya. But still there and makes this a worthwhile purchase

This was Osibisa's second and for me very best album. Along with the first album, it broke ground in introducing British audiences to African rhythms. The music is first rate: inventive, well played and varied. This is one of those albums where depending on your feelings, each track can become "the best". My consistent favorites over the years have been "Y-sharp" and "Move on". But, each one is a gem....I got the MP3 to hear the remaster. Not bad, but to be honest the original was very well produced. It is hard to pigeonhole Osibisa: they were "world music" before the term had been invented. Just guys from Ghana and the Caribbean hanging around together in London in the early 70s: they created a unique primarily instrumental sound that was completely new. After the first three albums, the leader (Teddy Osei) took the band off into a more commercial and hum-drum musical world (even Disco). Who can blame him: we all need money. However, the first three albums were pure music of the highest quality and this album was the best they ever produced.

At last those criss cross rhythms really do explode with happiness instead of the snap crackle pop of vinyl transfer from my old collection. A crisp and thoroughly wonderful remaster, and my only criticism is that the Amazon downloader seemed very slow and I may well have been as quick to order the CD rather than have the mp3 download...Joking aside. This is a great quality remaster, we3ll worth investing in if you are an Osibisa fan, or if you have never heard them. I also downloaded the other album 'Osibisa' and would have downloaded 'Heads' too had it been available...After that point, well, they just weren't the same band. Far too commercial.

An enthralling and very seductive sound of tribal sounds, especially the track with the background tropical storm.
Definitely worth a listen.

If you are not sure which Osibisa album to buy, this is the one.
Owned the original vinyl years back and sounds as good now as it did then.
