Product Description

An alien scientist invents the Intergalactic Inversion Drive, an engine system that transcends warp drive -- and the U.S.S Enterprise(t) will be the first to test it! The Klingons attempt to thwart the test, but a greater danger looms when strange symptoms surface among the crew -- and time becomes meaningless. Now Captain Kirk and his friends face their greatest challenge -- to repair the fabric of the Universe before time is lost forever! --This text refers to the Loose Leaf edition.

A tough read. 14 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
And I didn't manage to finish it.

It all started well enough and kept me gripped up to about 41%. This is when the inversion drive is first used and there is a strange interlude that happens during the 'no-time' of the drive's use. Then it got all rather philosophical and deep conversation and theory that I struggled with. Then the second use of the inversion drive happened and an even weirder interlude happened in the no-time period. I started to skim read and then skip pages. After everything went back to normal there was another long section of theory and philosophical back and forth and I ended up skipping pages again.

At the third inversion drive use I started skipping chapters. I just wanted to get back to the meat of the thing but in the end I gave up and couldn't finish this book. It was an incredibly tough read. Strictly speaking the author lost my interest at the 50% point and it never came back. Page after page of weirdness and theory and philosophy just killed it stone dead.

Others may enjoy this book but I've no idea who they would be. For me - it was too much like hard work and less like a good read that you can get absorbed in.

You might want to check out the reviews for the paper version of this book which are different to those presented here.

one of my favourite Star Trek books - real characters, a cracking good storyline and superb language. this is really worth reading if, like me, you are a fan of the original series but are sick of the dross that is so often published as 'exciting'. Diane Duane's book is really rather good!

If you're only interested in the canon Trek characters and more of them acting just like they did in the show, this may not be the book for you.

If you'd like to hear some interesting new ideas for the way the universe might work, meet some unusual aliens, and think about the world from a new perspective... this is possibly THE best Trek paperback out there.
