Is this the worst Bond film? No Moneypenny, No R (Q's successor), No new fancy gadgets, No suaveness. In fact , no anything!!! Even Daniel Craig looks out of place; though I know he tries his best. In the past, Bond hardly ever bled or bruised; except in DIE ANOTHER DAY and even then it was only marginal. That's what I liked about 007; he was virtually indestructable, almost a super hero. Come back, Pierce. All is forgiven.
Many of the classic Bond elements (such as Monneypenny, Q, the suave Bond humour ((even though there was some dark humour involved)) and the gadgets) were lost. This makes Bond film is a lot more serious, and therefore a lot more realistic. But the worst Bond film ever? Not by a long shot. Die Another Day still ranks 1st in the Worst Bond Movie list!
I think people get confused by where the balance of realism/technology, and traditions/modern ideas end up. To me, this is just the Bourne identity except with a much more confusing story. Their is is no depth. No explanations. No charm. No wit. Pathetic use of technology in MI6 HQ and Bonds phone. All the things that made Bond good in the first place have just been ripped out. And the people that love this film bang on about how Connery was the best... Yet those films were brighter, made sense, had more ambitious villains, and at least entertained us.
As one of the most loyal bond supporters and followers this ranks as the all time worst bond film. I watched it for the first time and literally fell asleep. Dreadful name, dreadful music and dreadful film - total waste of money.
It wasnt worthwaiting for and I wont pre order again will try and wait till I come home to England as living here in DK with an English Bank Account I have to pay Danish VAT.Not funny when I order so much Via Amazon. Not a great Bond Film I have all the others Come back Pierce please.
A great disappointment, very little plot and even less character depth. Much of the film consists of fight scenes just dumped in a heap leaving the viewer to attempt an understanding. The technical cutting is appalling - with few shots lasting more than a second it becomes very irritating, so fast that it is often difficult to realise which one is the baddy and which one Bond. There is no "cat and mouse" suspense or breath holding moment, just a mad rush to the next scene. The use of imagined star wars hi-tech in M's office makes the whole thing implausible - why send a man to sort out the worlds problems when clearly the waving of a hand across a glass screen would do it quicker. Following the recent disasterous Indiana film it might seem that the film industry has found itself in a downwards death spiral.
I just want to say its a prequel its at the beginning of the bond stories. of course some characters are missing. its darker because bond is less mature and unexperienced. enjoy the film for what it is. I loved it
Bond is great. I love Bond and I love just about all the films. What gets on my nerves is every few years EON will say let's get back to basics, let's get rid of the gadgets, lets make it more realistic...why? What's wrong with cool gadgets? What's wrong with fantasy? What Bond fan didn't like 'You Only Live Twice'? Lots of gadgets, fantastic sets, humour, and a ridiculous plot...brilliant! Daniel Craig is a good action hero and he maybe even a good Bond but Sean Connery he aint. The bottom line is Quantum of Solace just isn't as good a film (or as good a Bond) as the hype would have you believe but if your a Bond fan you'll buy it and put it with the rest of the collection, just like me.
Sorry, but I must agree. This was such an incoherant mess that I almost walked out of the cinema. Terrible plot, implausible dialogue (yes, I know it's a Bond film) and poor choice of Director all served to create a real 'Quantum of Bollocks'.
This is, yep, without the slightest shred of doubt, the worst Bond film EVER. I wouldn't even call it a film, but a sad excuse for an MTV-director to edit-masturbate a film to death. And of course also infest it with the trendy cyan/blue colour correction crap, plaguing so many new films now. Utter garbage, in other words. Even worse than the complete and overrated failure Casino Royale, it's another bad 007 entry that has been snowballing downwards ever since Goldeneye...
The worst Bond move ever? Absolutely. No wit. No charm. No humanity. Bond reduced to a humourless, cold blooded thug. Everything that once made Bond Bond has been surgically removed. Ms Broccoli should watch Dr Who to see how a franchise can be updated and still retain its core values.
Um, no not really. Firstly, to the OP, a protagonist with no weaknesses is a protagonist with nowhere to go. Your pining for the gadgets and catchphrases can be appeased two ways: one, go back and watch the excesses of some of the previous entries, good and bad, and two, wait a few years until all the elements you missed are reintroduced and the series slips back into it's comfortable nest of copycat action movies.
To the one above me: for heaven's sake go outside once in a while. Delusions of granduer like that can only come out of living in a room full of mirrors. Casino Royale was far from a failure, both critically and commercially. Fine, you disliked it, but that doesn't mean that everyone is wrong but you. Second, this film split people down the middle, so while there are those who don't like it like the OP, those who want comfortable retreading and catchphrases sprinkled with an emotionless story that you'll forget about within a few minutes, there are also those who appreciate that Bond could be depicted as a human being and could exist within a taut, lean spy thriller. Those who complain that there was no wit are obviously missing it - it's there. That's not an opinion, it's fact. If you want cheap innuendo about 'going down together' and making Christmas come, you should refer to Brosnan and Moore.
yes, yes, it was alla bit rushed and confusing, dodgy plot, a victim of the writers strike yadda yadda yadda... but worst bond film ever? you must be having a laugh! have you people ever bothered to read a bond book before and see that mr craigs bond brings back the characters raw quality? ...and you guys winging that its gone off 'franchise'- well screw franchise, i want a modern take on Ian Flemmings James Bond which this film provides... and coincidently did no one pick up on all the references to other 'bondage'; the girl covered in oils an obvious wink to goldfinger, but what about the tie slap from the spy who loved me, the ring in the snow from the book cover or her majesties secret service and the many scenes which are based on text from Ian Flemmings creations.... I'm not saying this film is perfect, far from it, but it quenched my thirst for an exciting spy journey that makes you want to be as cool as the main character- and after all thats what james bond was created for...
Well I think the worst is The Man with the Golden Gun with Moonraker, Dr No and the Majesty's Secret Service trailing not very far behind. I still wonder why this successful series could develop from a film like Dr.No
This has to rank up there as one of the worst. Theme song- crap. Plot-nonsensical , honestly the water supply in Bolivia ! The baddie and his henchman(?) pathetically effete and soft. The opera scene was just so contrived and added nothing to the narrative. I know some of the Brosnan efforts were crap, but this wasnt even Bond.
I have one question I would like to add? How on earth did this disappointment won two awards at this year's Empire Film Awards (back in March)? Best Thriller Film?! I don't think so. Gemma Arterton winning Best Newcomer?! She was wasted in a pointless role and had nothing to do with the storyline at all!!!
Just watched it and thought it was complete rubbish. Car chase followed by people chase followed by boat chase followed by another people and car chase followed by an aeroplane chase then a few explosions, fires and shootings, absolute garbage, is this what UK cinema has become in 2012? No plot no characters and the unbelieveable assumption that people in government are intelligent and know what they are doing. I think they should stop the Bond films now in case they make one worse if that is possible.
I liked the Casino Royale re-boot and Craig is not a bad Bond either, but the producers have started to mis-read things. The music has been updated to the degree that it is no longer iconic but actually rather unpleasant. This film tries to use modern filming techniques but the jerky style is less about realism and more about irritation. In QOS nearly every character is forgettable which is unforgivable in a Bond film and the sets look cheap and obvious. As soon as we saw the building out in the desert, we knew it had been slung up cheaply and was destined to be blown up. It was just all a bit too obvious. Craig is good, Dench is an excellent M but in this one their talents were under-used in one of the worst Bond films to date. Nick
