Statistically, life has never been safer. Yet worry has reached epidemic proportions. So what has gone wrong? Many Christians are suffering in silence, unsure if psychological solutions are appropriate for them, or if biblical teaching can lead them to freedom.
The Worry Book offers a fresh solution: seeing the process of worry as the problem, rather than getting stuck into individual concerns. We can use worry to create a sense of certainty and control, but the illusion is temporary, and we generate even more problems in the process. Here we learn about the factors behind worry, and how to disable the cycle of worry and tolerate uncertainty - principles we can apply to every situation.

This is a journeyman's guide through the comedy and heartache of discovering worry's function, and so removing its power. Good theology and psychology combine to offer new perspectives and real hope.

Review

Jesus didn't say, 'There's nothing to worry about', but 'Don't worry in spite of everything there is to worry about.' Will van der Hart and Rob Waller tackle this key issue in many people's lives.' --Nicky Gumbel, Vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton

'One of the hardest verses in the Bible is 'Do not worry', and I was therefore intrigued by The Worry Book. Well, I couldn't put it down! It is honest, humorous and holistic. I was re-educated and I am already seeing the benefits.' --Canon J.John, author and evangelist

'A very thoughtful, balanced and practical approach to the reality of anxiety. The authors have authority to write on worry, not only because they know the subject very well, but especially because they have a passion to help others with the same spirit as the Great Physician: reaching the whole person and not only their emotions. 'The Worry Book' goes far beyond the practical help of a mere self-help book; it is a therapeutic tool that is solidly founded on the Scriptures.' --Dr Pablo Martinez, author and psychiatrist

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - very practical 27 July 2011
Format:Paperback
Having met Will and Rob in the past and heard there talks on Mental Health issues, I find this book of there's to be just as good as their talks. The book is an easy read and has lots of practical application and really helps you to think through what you worry about. How they have brought Christian application and principles into the subject is brilliant and done this with much care and detail. This book is something that can be used by anyone, even if you are not a Christian.

Will brings to the book his own personal testimony and struggle with worry, as well as his experience in pastoral ministry within the Church. Rob has a great way of making the theory behind worry easier to understand. I would suggest you read some of the complicated stuff slowly, or 1 or 2 times, so that it goes in - but it's good stuff. This book is a book for the sufferer of worry, those supporting the worriers, and for church leaders / ministers / volunteers - all those involved in pastoral care.

Lastly, I want to say thank you to these guys for writing this book. Worry is a subject that isn't given much credence in society and within pastoral support. But from my own personal experience as a health professional and a patient, I would say that for many people worry is a BIG issue. So make sure you read this book...and seek freedom from worry.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Worry Book 19 July 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a book with a simple title but a very profound message: there is a path to freedom from worry and other imprisoning mental gymnastics, and you can find it - there is a stop button to the treadmill of unhelpful thinking.
The grandeur, the scale and the size of the subject is whittled down into a very accessible format so that 'bite size' chapters circumvent the mountain and plot a public footpath around, or rather, up and over it....the practical elements to the book help with that as do the personal signatures the authors stamp throughout. This is a bold new book - bold because of its profundity in theory, simplicity in practice and warmth in faith-filled testimonial style. Unlike many things that are supposed to and don't, The Worry Book will change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The worry Book 28 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
not read alot of it so far, But with scripture references amid the text and emphasis on CBT principals makes it a winner, as they work. Intertwined text between the two writers is excellent. a great read and a great help.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource 14 Sep 2011
By Firefly
Format:Paperback
This book has been a great asset and resource to the organisation I work for. We provide residential support to young women with life controlling issues such as eating disorders, self harm and depression. 'Worry' features highly as a contributor to the general dysfunction of some of our residents and in its extreme can become mentally debilitating. This book has helped several of our most extreme cases with practical techniques, as well as easy to understand explanations and information about the whys, whats and hows of overcoming worry. It's not easy to find resources that are this in depth yet at the same time useable and accessible to a wide range of people. The Worry Book is an excellent resource and I heartily recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, really helpful. 30 Mar 2012
By Lucy S
Format:Paperback
I came across this book whilst attending Cognitive Behaviour Therapy classes. This book has really been a great help to me as it covers very similar practical help to reduce anxiety and worry. I would recommend this to anyone who suffers from anxiety and fear. It's very simple to read, you are talked through some practical written exercises and record your own problems you are dealing with and will help you perceive them in a more positive and realistic way. I have a faith and prayer helps me through my struggles, so for me the fact there is a faith element in the book is really helpful. If you don't have a faith please don't be put of reading this book as there is nothing heavy or uncomfortable in it, and faith is only talked about in certain areas of the book not the whole of it, it's mostly therapy based. I'm enjoying taking my time on each chapter and putting the book down until I have some more time to myself so I can properly take in the words. I don't feel it has to be rushed through. I really hope if like me you worry too much or have severe anxiety you get this book as it's a briliant source to help you cope in difficult situations and generally improve mental illness.

5.0 out of 5 stars The worry book 14 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this book prior to The end of Worry. The authors have a gift of
explaining that worry affects many people (even themselves) and that puts the
reader at ease. We are not alone! The exercises are beneficial. The recommend-
ation is that the book should be read again. I endorse that!
I sent a copy to a family member who was going through a difficult time.It was
a great help.
