Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It would be cynical to accuse Everything but the Girl of coasting on Worldwide, especially when the album contains such songs as "Talk to Me Like the Sea" and "Twin Cities". But the bulk of this album finds the duo falling prey to the easy-listening sappiness that's always a danger for those who make loungey acoustic pop. If there were but one or two EBTG albums out there, this one would be a necessity for fans of Tracey Thorn's heavenly voice, but as there are plenty of stronger albums to choose from (check out Idlewild or Amplified Heart), Worldwide is better left for completists. --Randy Silver

It Feels Alright! 13 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Everything about this CD is just right. Tracey Thorne's vocals are the best in pop music and long time partner Ben Watt writes and produces the most perfect pop album I have heard in a long time. They make the kind of music you WISH could have more airplay on radio. Just pop this CD in and forget about that station you were about to tune in.

I could not list the highlights of this CD without listing all the songs on this effort. It is just that good. This is a rare CD that you don't skip one song to get to the next. "British Summertime" is a beautiful song given just the right melancholy feel by Tracey Thorn's wonderful voice, and "One Place" is an equally pretty song of our heart's longing to stay in one place and be happy.

My personal favorite, "Politics Aside," is about leaving when things are just never going to be right. These songs are all given just the right arrangements and we are always brought back around to feeling good after listening to this terrific CD. Maybe that is why Watt put a short 54 second duet called "Feel Alright" at the end. It has a tropical slant and leaves us feeling exactly that way, Alright........

There can be no doubt that this album was the best that Benn and Tracey produced. The music transcends anything they produced later. It was all done before what could be labelled their 'materialistic period' but it's a sad indictment on Britons that they ever had to produce the later stuff to become successful. Their best music was this and Idlewild without any doubt.

This is a wonderful slice of acoustic pop. Some great songs, tasty, understated arrangements and Tracy Thorn's wistful vocals all amount to the sort of album that can be played over and over without any diminution of enjoyment. O.K, if you are looking for high octane pumped grooves or monster sing-along choruses then you'd better give this set a very wide birth. But if you enjoy melodic, intimate and rather homely pop,'Worldwide' is definitely to be recommended. It's the sort of album that gives life a little more cheer and sunshine, which given the times we live in, can be no bad thing.Songs like 'Old Friends', 'You Lift Me Up' and 'One Place' are incontrovertibly beautifully crafted and performed songs that deserve a wider audience. So be bold, give 'Worldwide' a try, I have a feeling you won't be sorry!
