Just like the rest of the series - Excellent., 13 Feb 2001
This review is from: Worldwar: Upsetting the Balance (Paperback)
Boy, do things really start moving in this book. Following on from Tilting The Ballance, Upsetting The Ballance really picks up the pace as the world powers race towards all out nuclear war with the Lizards. As with the rest of the series (although this unfortunately does not apply to the Colonization series) the authors real grasp of the time period shines through and all sides are represented without bias. This is not only a facinating sci-fi tale, you will actually learn by reading this book. In conclusion, Upsetting The Ballance is a roller coaster ride of thrills and spills that sets the stage nicely for the series end in Striking The Ballance. Oh, one last thing.....don't go thinking any of your favorite characters are invunerable..........

Better than the last and almost as good as the 1st, 9 Jan 2002

Mesmerising period detail, fantastic characterization, a tragic end to a character you feel nothing but pity for, more insight into the aliens, realistic tactics and even an atomic explosion! This really has everything! It will leave you reaching rantically for the next in the series. Can you tell I like these books? Do yourself a favour and buy the lot.

It just keeps being excellent!, 21 Mar 2011

I love this series, it takes two of my favorite subjects (WW2 and Science Fiction) and throws them in together in such a believable way!
I'm no political expert, but the political insights that the series has srike me as very believable and are quite excellent.
I love the detail, I love the humane aspects, I love 'The Race' (I want to meet Ulhass and Ristin!) and the way that it all unfolds like a trail of ginger!
My comments will make sense once you've read the first book.
Just for clarity the order of the books are:
1) World War: In the Balance
2) World War: Tilting the Balance
3) World War: Upsetting the Balance
4) World War: Striking the Balance
I recommend them all!
I've just finished book 4 and have ordered the colonisation series.
