Book Description

18 Aug 2003 The World's Stupidest
Sometime the stupidity of man is overwhelming, so much so that it is difficult to imagine that man has walked on the moon and created the wheel. We have distinguished ourselves by our need to invent. Occasionally, however we can get it wrong, very wrong indeed. This is an amusing compilation of the some of the hiccups and the stupidest inventions that very nearly worked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something Different 6 Jan 2005
Format:Paperback
Hi Everyone.

I have always enjoyed the work of Adam Hart Davis. Mainly due to the programs, Local Heros and the Royal institution Christmas Lectures.

The book i found was very interesting, And written in a way that only Adam Hart Davis could. With his sense of humour and facination of the subject, this made for a very enjoyable read.

I would reccomend this book to anyone, more so to fans of Adams tv work(exept the inland revenue ads Boo Hiss). My only moan is that when discussing one invention, it seems to move onto another invention, Almost within the same sentence, Without a new paragraph. Other than that very enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mis-titled 8 May 2013

I've always enjoyed Hart-Davis' enthusiastic and down-to-earth presenting style and this book is not untypical of the programmes he makes. Where it falls down is in that the title does tend to imply that this is a bit of a giggle, whereas in fact, it isn't. Mildly interesting it is, funny it isn't; Hart-Davis does try, with such classics as the one about the failed inventor of "6UP"! How I wet myself.
