Product Description

Product Description

Though death is normally a serious and sad business, The World's Stupidest Deaths seeks to prove otherwise by revealing many unbelievable examples of the world's most unusual (and in some cases, highly ironic) demises, which are guaranteed to provoke tears of incredulous laughter, including accounts of the unfortunate deaths of such famous individuals as Attila the Hun, the writer and statesman Sir Francis Bacon, the Greek playwright Aeschylus, and Dr Robert Atkins, creator of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet. Includes great stories such as that of the Austrian dwarf and circus acrobat, Franz Dasch, who was killed during an exhibition in northern Thailand when he bounced from a trampoline and was swallowed by a nearby yawning hippopotamus. Doctors later concluded that the hippo had a gag reflex that automatically caused her to swallow. The 7,000-plus spectators continued to applaud until they realized that the panicked crew and paramedics were not part of Dasch's act.

This review is from: The World's Stupidest Deaths (Paperback)
The World's Stupidest Deaths I read this book in a very short space of time, it being one of the thinnest books I have ever bought, and was very disappointed in it. I must admit that one or two of the circumstances of the deaths did make me smile, but nothing more than that. I gave it to my 14 year old grandson, who was very interested in it when I told him the title - typical boy of that age, wants the gruesome details! Well, he didn't think much of the book either, so it must be bad. He even asked me if some of the 'deaths' were made up, as he couldn't believe that people would be THAT stupid (yes I know the title is 'stupidest deaths', but I didn't ask, he did) and I assured him that I was sure that everything in there was correct. I don't think it was worth the money, even at the Amazon price, and won't be buying any more of these books. Maybe if I was about 7 years old I might find it funny, but I think I am a bit long in the tooth to appreciate it now.
