Product Description

Product Description

Towards the end of the twenty-first century 41 Worlds, small satellites with a total population of half a million, orbit the Earth, which has seen many changes, not least of which is a second revolution in America. Marianne O'Hara, a brilliant political sciences student, is from New New York, a hollowed out asteroid and the largest of the Worlds, but is to spend a year on Earth as a postgraduate student. Because the political relationship between the Worlds and Earth is complex and voltatile, Marianne unwittingly finds herself caught up with a group of fanatics determined on a third revolution in America - even if such a revolution could lead to the destruction of the Earth...

Excellent 11 Jan 2002
Format:Paperback
This, and the other two books in the trilogy (Worlds Apart and Worlds Enough And Time), is an amazing book.

The central character, Marianne O'Hara, is always believable and the World she lives in is brilliantly realised and always consistent.

Buy all three! :-)

Good story but... 29 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a good story; a page turner. I read it many years ago and the story is still as good on a second reading. It's old fashioned science fiction; spaceships, space stations and lasers with human stories and an apocalypse thrown in. It isn't great literature but it is entertaining.

Unfortunately, the story has been let down by the transcription and poor proof-reading in the kindle version. I had sampled kindle on the PC, but this has been my first experience of reading a whole novel on the Kindle device. I like the Kindle device itself. It is easy to use and a good portable size and weight without being too small to be useful. But it has been let down by the poor quality of the transcription of this novel. I can only think that it has been produced by some automated method from the original without being proof-read. If it has, then the proof reader needs to engage in some introspection. The text is riddled with glaring mistakes.

The four star rating has been given for the book, not for the kindle text.

Lost a star for price 28 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a great book. It's a shame that the kindle edition is quite expensive for such an old book.
