Product Description

CD Description

This fifth studio album of original material from the Finnish metalheads is their first since 2005's self-titled effortand comes more than ten years after the four classically-trained cellists originally got together as a novelty Metallica covers band. Proving that cellos can rock just as hard as guitars, the album elegantly combines classical and metallicelements and features a different guest vocalist on every track, including Slipknot's Corey Taylor on the single 'I'm Not Jesus'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finnish cellometallists are no longer a novelty - and better for it, 24 Sep 2007
By C. O'Brien (Scotland, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Since 1996, when they put out their first album of Metallica cover versions, these four scary Finnish cellists have evolved from a novelty act for festivals into an original musical force.

Gradually their albums have contained fewer covers and more original material written by the band - all of them graduates of Helsinki's Sibelius Academy. Avoiding cheesy crossover gimmickry, the material blends classical harmonies and structures with the more melodic end of metal.

Instrumental tracks like the surging title track reflect the influence of King Crimson in their "Red" era. Guest vocalists expand the formula, with a surprisingly subtle vocal from Corey Taylor on the tortured I'm Not Jesus and Adam Gontier of Three Day's Grace contributing a big hummable melody on I Don't Care.

Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia sounds, if anything, a little too polished on S.O.S (Anything But Love): her formulaic turn in the spotlight is thoroughly outshone by Till Lindemann's passionately brutish take on Bowie's Heroes, here sung in German as Helden. The broken pathos of the original is here replaced by a kind of defiant celebration, the Rammstein frontman's voice rising out of weird cello harmonics like a conjured beast.

Drummer Dave Lombardo of Slayer also takes a turn behind the kit on the furious instrumental Last Hope, and Japanese guitar virtuoso Tomuyasu Hotei is spotlighted on Grace (not the Jeff Buckley tune).

World Collide continues the evolution which started to come to fruition on 2005's self-titled album, proving once and for all that this is far more than a gimmick.

This was the first apocalyptica album i bought and it certainly won't be the last.
If you like the hard rock of metallica/slipknot and melodic rock of three days grace then you are bound to like this album.
Every song has so much depth, it really draws you in.
I strongly recommend this. It has changed the way I listen to rock music...
Inspiring, intelligent and invigorating
LOVE 'EM!!!
