1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid., 8 Nov 2008
By M. Wilkinson (Portsmouth, Hampshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I got to read this book for free, after following up a comment asking for reviewers to read this, presumably in exchange for being able to take a look so to take them up on their kind offer here is my review.

A book on photographic competitions? Not on how to take a great photo per se, but on competitions and entering them? Hmm, a new genre created by this book alone. So? How is it? The book is awful. It is something like 200 pages long but the print is quite large so you should think of it as about half that size. The last part of it consists of large lists of photographic competitions, grant bodies and such - something anyone could find for themselves if they wanted to take a few minutes.

As for the help and advice content, let's just say there is only one picture in the book. Yes, 1. Its of the famous 'this is not a pipe' painting much discussed in philosophy. No photos at all so one starts to think 'who is this guy giving all this advice? what has HE done that is so noteworthy?'

They say everyone has one good book in them but lots of people it seems to me barely have a decent pamphlet and this is what you'll feel reading this shallow, puerile drivel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Beginner and Amateur photographers!, 10 Mar 2009
I teach amateur photography as a past time, and after reading this book, i've purchased a few copies for my students. It's a great book for amateur photographers and teaches you have to enter photography competitions worldwide and even online. I've learnt quite a lot of new tricks from this book and believe it is great value for money! Recommended for all photographers who have a passion and want to improve on their skills.

2.0 out of 5 stars Read Reviews first before buying, 19 Nov 2008

I received the free download for the promise of a review.

First off leave your preconceived ideas at the front page; the first 100+ pages take you back to common sense of entering competitions which you need to remember once in awhile. This is great for beginners and experts alike.

The stock library information's is a good starting point to further research, this saves you a fair few hours of getting and idea on this business concept.

The competitions are really geared to the American market, so I wonder why this has not been pitched more to the USA and a European version created with lots of relevant competitions for this side of the Atlantic?

As a free download its great the first half but I would have been disappointed to part with money for this. For the relevant parts of this I might have parted with £6.
